Brilliant move for the state of CA--let the rest of the states take care of them.

Well, the rest of the states have been using California as a dumping ground for their undesirables for decades - so turnabout is fair play.

Thats was GOOD, but I was thinking more like this:

Come and listen to a story 'bout a man named Jed
Poor entrepreneur barely kept his family fed
Then one day he was working for some food,
And up through the crowd come a bumbling fool
(Arnold that is, RINO gold, more taxes please)

Well the first thing you know old Jed's taxes are to much to bear,
Kin folk said Jed move away from there!
Said California is no place for you to be
So they loaded up the truck and they moved form Beverly
(go’n back to the Hills they are, fish’n holes, country and western stars)

Well now it's time to say goodbye to Jed and all his kin
They would like to thank you folks for kindly dropping in
You're all invited back again to their new locality
To have a heaping helping of their hospitality
(Redneck Hillbillies, is what the press call 'em now,
Clingers of bibles and guns and to Obama no bow!
Nice folks Y'all come back now, ya hear?)

“Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger is proposing to completely eliminate the state’s welfare program for families, medical insurance for low-income children and Cal Grants cash assistance to college and university students.”

I fear this is a ploy and blackmail—a ploy because it’s intended to get people to scream and blackmail because it’s intended to get money from whomever they can to avoid “hurting” people.

“eliminate the state’s welfare program for families”—I don’t quite get what that means and the link didn’t help. Do singel people still get welfare? Can everyone in a family still apply singly?

“medical insurance for low-income children “ — Won’t help financially overall. They’ll take the kids to the emergency room where they can’t be turned away and will be treated at more cost, which the parents won’t be able to pay, so the loss will be folded into increased costs for other patients who can pay.

“Cal Grants cash assistance to college and university students.” The colleges and universities will “miss” the money they would have gotten and all else being equal, raise tuition for other students to make up the difference.

If they are going to reduce welfare, they should first tighten up on qualifications, for instance limiting it to those who prove citizenship.

If the expense of education is a burden, they should lower the costs of education, what the institutions charge, which they ought to be able to do at state run institutions by reducing expenses.

If health care costs too much, lower the actual costs to the patient by arranging reduced charges to the patients by reducing the expenses of the provider where any of that is possible.

I teach high school in los angeles and the class size is going from 24-1 to 34 for 9th and tenth graders and 45 for 11th and 12th. This was decided before most understood how how the defcit will be. Things are going to get way more interesting.

If welfare gets cut, members of the welfare class will move to other states. If CA gets serious about illegals, they will also move elsewhere. This would also have an effect on student population and thus class size.

How much more humane it would have been if these programs had never started in the first place.

Hey, it’s a great start. Best thing he’s ever suggested.”

It is long overdue!!!!!

Next I want the Federal Attorney General to go after all those ads which PROMISE to get your electric mobile chair that ‘you so desperately need’ from the SCOOTER STORE ‘at no cost to you’....whether Medicare approves you or not. .....

This smells of a Medicare rip-off.

IF someone needs such an instrument- is it not the responsibility of their family to provide it? Why does it fall to the taxpayers?

This leads me to the current rash of ads which promise to lower your past unpaid IRS obligations dramatically.....

“I owed $200,000 and I only paid $17,000” and such!!!

“I owed $2 million and I only paid $21,000”!!!!

The rest of us have paid our IRS obligations for all of our lives. There were times when I got behind and I paid it all off- penalties and interst and principal.

Is this not another set of rip-offs against the taxpayers who play fair???

Please, Mr Attorney General-— spend some quality time going after these charlatans.

Get ready for the great migration eastward...

That won’t slow down till the wave hits the Mississippi River...

If that's the case, I'll be ready with some C4 for the bridges.

Coulter is absolutely correct. And if they’re illegal alien parents of anchor babies, give them a choice: Either take you babies home with you to Mexico (or wherever) or give them up for adoption.

Ann Coulter say, “Get rid of illegal aliens and your budget problem is GONE in 2.5 years”””

I lived in Kalifornia from Feb 1964 to Dec 2004.

Ann Coulter is overstating the time line, IMO.

IF ARNOLD had the guts to get them all out in 6 weeks, I don’t think it would take 2 . 5 years to get a balanced budget.

But- before you all rejoice- you must know that one of the current crop of Governor candidates is Newsome- the current mayor of San Fran.

He has a program-—funded to the tune of $500,000 which calls for families to enroll and get paid up to $2000 a year for doing things that the rest of us have done for years:
Buy a house? San Fran will pay you $50.!!!
Your kid graduates from grade school or high school? San Fran will pay you.!!!
Keep your yard trimmed and clean—San Fran will pay you.!!!
They already have 93 families enrolled-—for a continous period of time-—and there is room for more up to 250 families. Now that he has made headlines on the topic- they are flocking to apply-——wonder why? sarc>

No money to pay for cops- but San Fran will pay you to keep your kid in school.

Guess the only way there will be any ethics or values in San Fran is if they get bought with taxpayer money, eh?????

Although I probably favor this (need to know more details),

still I suspect this is a step meant more to shock the swing voters than really to cut waste.

Although there’s tons of waste/ fraud in welfare, consider this: Isn’t there even MORE clear waste in the very EXISTENCE of innumerable state boards, councils, bureaucracies (and their cushy staffs)? As I mentioned yesterday, the UC Board of Regents has SEVENTEEN Regents, and obviously most of them are just there for “resume jewelry” because they (the appointed Regents) are big political donors, like Dianne Feinstein’s husband Dick Blum. Point: We CAN get by with only THREE or FIVE Regents — and, thus, only 3/17 of the STAFF, too.

Good start, Arnold, albeit 6 years late.

A small town in Kalifornia had 4 fire engines.
Kalifornia EPA came in and condemned 2 of them which were only purchased 2 years ago- an investment of $500,000.

Now there are only 2 engines to fight fires with, and which ever bank is holding the loan for the balance owned on the trucks might be in trouble.

I am guessing that is might be hard to sell these trucks, also, to another small town in another state, since the EPA is bent on declaring anything that wasn’t built in 2013 as “non-compliant’ and not usable for fire fighting!!!!

Wonder what the insurance companies are going to do to punich the property owners in that town?

Excellent point that is often overlooked.

The unfortunate “deserving poor” who get this welfare are much more likely, now (after years on the dole) to be psychologically dependent ON it. So, cutting it will cause them real pain for awhile — pain they would likely have already surmounted long ago if these programs were not so “generous.”

And private charities will — for awhile, at least — be LESS able to take up the slack, and the reason why? Fewer folks DONATE now to private charities, in less amounts, because “I can’t afford to, after all the taxes” and/or “I could, but isn’t that what I pay taxes for?” attitudes.
