An estimated 3,000 people attended the Chase Foundation scholarship reception in which President Bush was the keynote speaker. The Chase Foundation awards every graduating Artesia High School student that maintains a 3.0 grade average a paid college scholarship to a college in NM and West Texas. Scholarships are renewed yearly for those maintaining a 2.5 GPA. The foundation was started by Mack Chase, an independent oil and gas producer in Artesia.
