Study: Millennials Really Love Their Big Government
The Atlantic ^

Posted on 05/20/2009 7:09:45 AM PDT by mc6809e

A study from the Center for American Progress polls the Millennial generation and finds that they aren't afraid of big government, not even a little. This is a bit surprising, because one thing I always heard about today's twentysomethings is that we're libertarian-lite: culturally liberal but too anti-authority to love a big government. Well, nevermind, I guess.

As Matt Yglesias points out, today's youth are tilting left on all sorts of economic questions, from more government investment in education and infrastructure (80% agree) to leading the world's eco-revolution (73% on board). And on the meta-questions about government's role in American lives, we really are all socialists now:

Agree completely...if it is attempted in our life time. But unless a generation comes along with some savvy and cajones, things look very grim a half-century from now. IMHO!

You make a good point. I’m willing to be that a fair number of freepers weren’t the rock-ribbed conservatives that they’ve become when they were in their 20’s. If you were that’s great. They need to start making some real money and see how much they like getting taxed or start sending their kids to public schools where they see what they learn/don’t learn.

The problem is that these idiots “feel” (I will not use the word “thinks”) that they can have all they want in terms of government programs and “green energy” and other crap like that, and not suffer any economic or standard of living consequences. Sooner or later, it will all come crashing down, just like California. Only on a national scale. The productive part of the world, having taken what they can of our wealth, is now going to dump us like you dumped that idiot bimbo high school girlfriend.

This is going to be really ugly when these people wake up and find that all the necessities of life will be greatly rationed, and the goodies they took for granted won’t be available at all.

But like I said, there is no sense talking to them. They have an addict’s psychology and like all hard-core addicts, they won’t really start the road to recovery until they’ve hit rock bottom. There is a word for those of us who see what’s coming and try to soften the blow because “we’ll suffer, too.”

The word is “enabler.”

The 18-34 yr. old crowd is/has moved to the left of center. The GOP either didn't see it, or refused to pivot accordingly ==> politically tone deaf.

18-34 are basically “have nots”. The rats put up a sign that says “free cheese”, conservatives put up a sign that says “cheese you have to work for” Which line did they get in?

Exactly how are you going to attract them? The GOP did see it and became “rat lite”

Yeah, I know that one. Why bother. Time will come when this former republic is all lost. Preparation is everything at this point.

principles of democracy.

I am beginning to hate the use of the word democracy. We are a republic, a nation of laws, not majority vote.

Don’t be so glum. God has a plan for those Christian homeschool families with 10 kids.

When you live in your parents’ basement playing Wii and texting friends all day long, “BIG government” really doesn’t show up on your radar. All this will shake out when the “millennials” wake up someday and find mom and dad are no longer around to care for them.

The Government is already playing dad for many of them.

Don’t forget the next “RIGHT”....FREE KFC CHICKEN!!! NO CHICKEN... NO PEACE!!! LOL. This generation is a sorry one. They have encouraged..indulged and pampered. In my day they would have been told to Sit down and Shut Up until you have something intelligent to say.

"Exactly how are you going to attract them? The GOP did see it and became “rat lite”"

A good analogy & perhaps your right.

I guess the 18-34's are going to have to learn the hard way that there is no "free cheese".

They're simply regurgitating what they've learned in their schools. Brainwashed. Waking up to reality is not easy.

Thank you parents who spent their time, ‘finding themselves’ indulging themselves, allowing the schools to bring up their children.

Reminds me of Omarosa Obama whining that the university in Chicago didn’t reach out to her. Evidently sitting back and waiting for the education, the jobs, the perks to ‘find you’ is the new mantra.

We will have a generation who learns the hard way, the very hard way. And they will be bitter bitter bitter.

And I don’t mean the bitter clingers of guns and God either.

for example, my teenage daughter is continually running up huge cell phone bills via texting that goes over my plan. I have explained this to her and she has cooled it, but the problem has not gone away because this same explanation does not get through to all of her friends who keep texting her, sticking me with the charge. These kids have absolutely no clue nor concern that somebody somewhere always gets stuck paying the bill for whatever they want to do. Take that type of thinking writ large and you have your typical Millenium Democrat. (if technology existed back in the day that would have allowed my friends to run up a huge bill to my dad, he would have kicked my arse and those of my friends too)

Truth in advertising requires that the sign say in small print “until it runs out.”
