Just as Rep. Brandon Creighton, R-Conroe, was introducing the House resolution when Rep. Senfronia Thompson, D-Houston, raised the procedural point that shot it down. She said that "states rights" was used as a banner for segregation and Jim Crow laws, but that was not her immediate concern. Thompson said she opposed the resolution because it, and others like it, are feeding movements that challenge federal authorities to regulate guns, taxes or fund needed state programs such as children's health and unemployment insurance. "I don't want to see that used as a mechanism to block that assistance," Thompson said. Creighton said he was disappointed by the setback but was hoping there was still time to resurrect the resolution within the next 12 days before the session ends. "It's interpreted that this is an effort to either slap at the White House or that it brings back hurtful memories about how the 10th Amendment has been used in the past. That most certainly isn't the case," he said. He said his resolution was aimed at unfunded mandates, burdensome federal regulation and unfettered spending.

modern slavery on the democrat-socialist plantation is more fun!
***She said that “states rights” was used as a banner for segregation and Jim Crow laws***
Assuming that this was true, is anyone really dumb enough today to think that governments would reenact these policies? I mean really.

What procedural rule gives her this much power?
This from a member of the Party of Slavery.
You’re talking about a psycho who is a member of the Texas Black Caucus. Her job is to use racism as a crutch to advance liberal causes and make her constituents feel like victims from “Whitey.”
You knew going in that if this could be turned racial, it would be. This is par for the course in what passes for reasoned thought for the leaders of the Black communities.
You can only hang your head and feel sorry for people who cannot move on and address issues based on their merits.
Straw dogs and personal benefit, are the sole motivating forces behind so many Blacks today.
If only they could grasp that Obama will turn this nation into something that will prevent them from advancing far more than any White person has done in one hundred years.
If there is no successful U.S.A., what can Blacks aspire to? Our fates are tied together, and yet the politics of division and special interest over-ride sane reason.
We are going to have to come together or sink separately.
It will backfire on her.
” because it, and others like it, are feeding movements that challenge federal authorities to regulate guns, taxes “
hey idiot, we’er not trying to sneak this stuff by you, we’er going to bowel you over with it, like, in your FACE!!
So will the real American Citizens of Texas.

She ought to sue her parents' estate for givin' her that name. She's like the Boy Named Sue.
“that challenge federal authorities to regulate guns, taxes or fund needed state programs”
Means that the RATS can’t impose extra taxes on the citizenry, and they’re so afraid. What would happen if the RATS couldn’t squeeze more taxes out of people to pay for illegals or RATS couldn’t pay their voters to keep voting for them. Oh, my! What a pleasant thought.
Example of the communists rule in America. Nothing stops this corrupt machine and we better get used to it.
Yes, We Will! And before this Fall many more states will bristle to the coming attempt at subjection

Texas has yet to learn submission to any oppression, come from what source it may.

Just sent her this email:
Your failure to support a simple resolution that basically reinstates the rights of the great state of Texas as enumerated by the 10th amendment is a dishonor to your integrity. I realize that I am not in your district but HCR 50 has nothing to do with race, as you proclaim, but rather confirms our continued right as Texans to choose our own government and to ultimately live as free men and women. This is an important start for Texans as we are witnessing and unprecedented abuse of power at the federal level that is leading us to absolute tyranny.
Clearly, you are on the wrong side of this issue as your decision represents a conscious choice of handouts over responsibility, skin color over character and slavery over freedom.
