We Don’t Need Obama To Tell Us What Cars We Want

Maybe its my inner rebellious child, but it bugs me to be told what I want. And if theres anyone I dont want telling me that, its some do-gooder from the government.
So when Carol Browner made the morning show rounds today, claiming that Pres. Obamas new, higher MPG standards are giving Americans the cars they want, it really got under my skin.
Oh, and then of course theres the little thing about what she said being . . . demonstrably false.

You’ll be lucky if 0bama lets you have a car at all, much less leave your house without his express permission.

Notice that the CAFE standards don't go into effect until 2016. By that time both government car companies will be ruined and Zero will be at the end of his 2nd term.
What a Putz!

It’s not about what we want as far as socialist BO is concerned. It’s about what he wants and you must obey.

Coming soon to a garage near you. The 3 cylinder, polution-spewing, recycled plastic bodied East German Trabant.
Who says a government can't run a car company?

“We Dont Need Obama To Tell Us What Cars We Want”
********
**************
You said a mouth full there, friend!
The american automobile—now chiefly SUV, PickUps, and others—is the very symbol of American Liberty and Freedom, just as the man on horseback was that symbol long prior to the automobile. This is not lost on those who seek to destroy America, and it is one of the reasons they have made the auto industry one of their major targets.
Like 0’pinhead sez, wise-up!

Ya know, one of my best friends, from childhood, is a engineer who works in the offshore racing biz. Before that, he worked in the auto racing biz. I remember quite well when a bunch of us had this discussion over how average MPG has not gone up and it's all an evil conspiracy between big oil and big auto. His response was that cars have gotten much more efficient over the years but the real problem is that the wrong measurement is being used to push the argument, thus hiding the real culprit. That culprit is weight and the measurement he says is the real one to look at is Weight/Miles/Gallon. He pointed out that the average car has around 50-100LBS of anti-pollution on it which, in addition to that payload, also has a negative impact on the efficiency since almost all emission controls require some degree of energy consumption themselves.
Another item which has added large amounts of weight to newer cars is all of the sound deadening, passive restraints(air bags), and extra wire used for all of the nice power goodies(windows, locks, 12V outlets, video systems) that consumers demand today.
One of the things they did in the 70's which ended up as bad for occupants was that, in order to get higher MPG's they cut weight by lightening the superstructure with punchouts and other forms of metal removal. That in turn produced more accident related injuries and deaths. As he put it, there are metals availible today which are stronger than steel and much lighter, but they also cost a great deal more and require more expensive processing to make parts with.

giving Americans the cars they want, That's true, for Sierra Club members that live in Manhattan and bike to work.
For everybody else, that statement is a farce.

Remember, there is no member of the Obamaloon cabinet or the Obamaloon house or the Obamaloon senate who could pass mechanics 101, electrical engineering 101, chemistry 101, or math 101. That’s why they’re politicians.
And - they’re gonna design your cars.

Changes coming (POF Predictions)...
- Before long, trucks and SUVs will only be available to state registered contractors. No trucks or SUVs for the hoi polloi.55 mph national speed limits come back. Lower speeds will offset the increased deaths from driving their stupid micro cars.
- Obama Motors will use ultra-high mpg tires on us that ride like truck tires pumped up to 90 psi. Passenger comfort be damned.
- Air conditioners will be reduced in size and output of cold air. You won't be able to keep your cab at 72 degrees F ("and not have other countries complain about it").
- Odd / Even driving days. Like Odd / Even refueling days of yore, you'll get a sticker that indicates which day you can drive your vehicle
Just thought you'd like a sneak peek at your new world under Obamunism.

As he put it, there are metals availible today which are stronger than steel and much lighter, but they also cost a great deal more and require more expensive processing to make parts with. In the end, the net result is that cars and trucks will simply be more expensive relative to income.
The administration has essentially mandated that drivers need to pay more for the privilege - instead of "drill here, drill now", we get "we'll just make it more expensive to drive and maybe they'll do less of it," while acting as if they're doing us a favor by limiting choice and increasing cost.

I’d prefer rear drive so as to sit in FRONT of the exhaust outlet.
