Huntsman advisor: We’re doomed in 2012 if Palin’s a major player in the GOP

From the man who brought you John McCain. And before you ask, yes, he was indeed one of the Republican “insiders” who contributed to that National Journal poll declaring her future dead in the water.

The Republican strategist who helped Utah Gov. Jon Huntsman prepare for a possible presidential run says the Republican party is in for a devastating defeat if its guiding lights are Sarah Palin, Rush Limbaugh and Dick Cheney. “If it’s 2012 and our party is defined by Palin and Limbaugh and Cheney, then we’re headed for a blowout,” says strategist John Weaver, who advised Huntsman and was for years a close adviser to Sen. John McCain. “That’s just the truth.”…

“If it’s 2012 and our party is defined by Palin and Limbaugh and Cheney, then we’re headed for a landslide,”

There fixed it for him.

She may, but you have no idea how long a path that is, or what it entails. I wouldn't prejudge to know what she meant. There are many ways to get to the secure border that we all want, and to get illegal too, but in this environment, we have to be diplomatic or we will get no where. You do see that, I hope.

Deja BS ... The GOP will be a permanent minority party if Reagan is the nominee. Reagan is another Goldwater. Reagan is an extremist who terrifies the moderates and scares old people. And so on and so on.

You have defined Gov. Palin as such.
The adults, the people who know otherwise
and don’t get sucked in by the left will
continue to support Gov. Palin

People like Hunntman, Sanford, Romney, all
sons of wealthy fathers with no clue about the real world.

...”but in this environment, we have to be diplomatic or we will get no where.”...

oh good grief. now I’ve heard it all. Are we expected to be “diplomatic” about abortion, health care reform, same sex marriage, gun rights?

Stop making excuses for her. I swear, if she picked her nose and ate it, some of you’d excuse that too. Sound like a bunch of old Thompson supporters. Better to be honest and just admit that in the end it doesn’t matter to you WHAT her “not total amnesty”/”path to citizenship” position is (or isn’t).

Rush Limbaugh said Sarah Palin is the most “prominent and articulate voice” for conservatism.

Does she, or does she not, support a path to citizenship for illegal aliens?

Look, we don't know exactly what Palin's immigration stand is. Bear in mind I'm not spinning or anything, if she does support amnesty then she's a no-go. Let's just wait until 2012 if she decides to run - better yet, why not just email her and get this discussion going.

With respect E3, her statement reads right out of the RINO playbook. If this statement were made by any other (McAin't, Graham, Hutchison, Huckabee, etc.), it would be regarded precisely for what it is... A guarded support for the RINO Republican line.

The Conservative position, which EVERYONE here knows damn well is "Build the fence, enforce the law". That is not her position.

These words of hers would never have come from a Conservative's mouth, no matter what the occasion.

Those willing to give Palin special dispensation, and refuse to regard her record with the same critical eye they would give to any other are in for a big surprise, IMHO.

Just wait and let Palin give her answer without a leash. There is plenty of time to decide.

Without a leash? That she would be leashed stands against her being truly Conservative in the first place. Conservatives stand upon principle. They do not waver. The fact that the words passed her lips damn her. A rock-ribbed Conservative would *never* say those words, and you damn well know it, as does everyone here.

I do not need time to decide about Sarah Palin. She is a moderate populist, similar to Thompson. Her principles are *not* Conservative by her record, nor can she redeem herself, without drastically changing her views and positions, which cannot be done by 2012.

I already know that I will be against her, tooth and nail. I want a Reaganite, not another moderate.
