Study: US Students Lagging In Biosciences

Students Showing Less Interest, Report Says

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Middle and high school students across the country are generally falling behind in life sciences, and the nation is at risk of producing a dearth of qualified workers for the fast-growing bioscience industry, according to a report released Monday.

Students are showing less interest in taking life sciences and science courses, and high schools are doing a poor job of preparing students for college-level science, says the report, funded and researched by Columbus, Ohio-based Battelle, the Biotechnology Industry Organization and the Biotechnology Institute.

The good news? Our first graders know all about Gay Marriage and what a Transgendered person is. They also know how to get an abortion if their mean parents won’t allow them to get one.

Take THAT China!

We’ve got a helluva lot of transplanted Chinese, Korean, Indian, and East Asian nationals in biotech - at least in Cambridge.

Black Americans or immigrants? Not so much. Hispanics? Only after 5 when the janitorial companies come in.

I am really surprised that pharma and biotech haven’t been assaulted by this government for lack of ‘diversity’.

You also have high-school science teachers in the US who are afraid to utter the word E*******n. Life science teachers in other parts of the developed world have no such worries.

I’m a bioscience worker. I haven’t noticed any “shortage” of qualified workers. Each time I have switched jobs, it has been challenging enough to find a good one.

Missed this the first time through, but considering it was May and what our lives were like, I’m not surprised.

Belated ping.

That’s horse crap one maybe two states in the nation restrict teaching evolution and most parents don’t give a crap if its taught as a theory.

Can out kids not read because teachers are afraid of the alphabet?

can our kids not do math because they fear the remainder?

do they not know how government works because our teachers are afraid of the constitution... (well maybe that one is a bad example)

All areas of education are failing because of a policy of social engineering and lazy parents *not* because they anti-evolution fairy is coming and stealing away texbooks.

I guess he doesn’t know about the trillions borrowed to sustain that standard of living and never tried to imagine what happens when that house of cards falls.

No one change the simple truth that consuming more than one produces leads to poverty.
