GOP sounds alarm on Latino voter gap [Graham, Steele, Martinez, Crist] [amnesty] [RINO wars]
Politico ^ | 2009-05-18 | Ben Smith

The Republican Party has scarcely begun to repair a wound that threatens to confine it to minority status: its 2006 collapse among Hispanic voters.

Driven by some Republicans’ sharp attacks on illegal immigration and — as many Hispanics perceived it, immigrants in general — Latino voters fled the GOP en masse in the midterm elections, then turned on John McCain, as well.

. . . . .

There are stirrings of a Republican response. Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) has spoken with Hispanic leaders about creating a new organization to back Latino candidates. Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele has made minority outreach a priority at the RNC. And some Republicans see an opening if Obama continues to defer action on overhauling immigration.

. . . . .

A spokesman for the National Republican Senatorial Committee, Brian Walsh, said that candidate recruitment for 2010 is still under way and noted that Martinez himself had endorsed Crist, in part for his moderate stance on immigration.

But Graham, who said he sympathized with the Senate Republican leadership’s decision to back a candidate with a good chance of winning, also raised concerns about the Florida decision.

“The key for our party is to have Hispanic candidates to carry our banner,” Graham said. “I don’t blame them for trying to make sure we don’t lose another seat in Florida. But at the same time, clearly Mr. Rubio is the type of person who would lead our party in Florida and the country to a new level.”

Graham said he’s considering forming a political action committee, or some other entity, aimed at recruiting strong Hispanic Republican candidates.

I appreciate your interest in being a part of the political process but the RNC can't be paying you enough to spend hours on this forum being humiliated as a party shill with no understanding of conservative principles or the rule of law.

Another Buchanite I see. Don’t let the door hit you on the way out of the GOP.

If we don’t stick up for the “beliefs” that made America what it is, the country is doomed to devolve into a Third World, socialist sewer, anyway.

Exactly what “beliefs” of Blacks and Hispanics do you think we should embrace, which we are not now embracing?

A poll of nativist extremists is not representative of the American voting public at large. Last year’s primaries proved that.

FR is not a moderate site, that is why after reading your 3 week posting history I labelled you a troll.

freerepublic is a conservative site.

To quote the owner.

“As a conservative site, Free Republic is pro-God, pro-life, pro-family, pro-Constitution, pro-Bill of Rights, pro-gun, pro-limited government, pro-private property rights, pro-limited taxes, pro-capitalism, pro-national defense, pro-freedom, and-pro America. We oppose all forms of liberalism, socialism, fascism, pacifism, totalitarianism, anarchism, government enforced atheism, abortionism, feminism, homosexualism, racism, wacko environmentalism, judicial activism, etc. We also oppose the United Nations or any other world government body that may attempt to impose its will or rule over our sovereign nation and sovereign people. We believe in defending our borders, our constitution and our national sovereignty.”

“When Bob Dole made it clear that Pat Buchanan and malcontents such as yourself were not welcome in out party. Leave and do not darken our doorstep again.”

English isn’t your first language, is it? I, for one of many, left ‘your’ party a long time ago. In case you haven’t noticed, just about everyone has. Only 23% of voters identify themselves as ‘republican’. Why bother when republicans like you sound just like democrats?

This country has a sovereign border and laws that are supposed to be enforced. If you don’t like the rule of law and those of us who built this country...leave. People and countries without borders and boundries are...well, like Mexico!

The floor is yours....rant away, I won’t bother to read any more of your nonsense.

Illegal immigrants must be given a pathway to citizenship to win over Hispanic voters, and some type of affirmative action must be kept in place to win over Black voters.

That is a lie, I have to assume that you have been reading the previous posts which means that you know that isn't true.

If you want to delude yourself into thinking Hispanics in general didn't vote for McCain/Palin and for Obama wasn't because of the promise of a free pony in every garage you go right ahead. :o)

That’s your choice to “diss” your ancestry, but do not tell others they cannot take some sort of pride in theirs.

Actually that was rhetorical...and if that was over your head never mind...

Which isn't even close to what you claimed, you said that religion didn't make a difference, but in reality the republicans won a huge margin of the Protestant Hispanic vote in 2004 (between 54% and 63%) and they even won 48% of their vote against Obama.

Those aren’t “beliefs.” They are simply a way for those groups to game the system and get an advantage they didn’t earn. So, what you’re really saying is we can’t win unless we pander to the naked interests of minorities, which Democrats are willing to do.

If we let the illegals vote, they will always vote for the politician who promises to steal the most from the “rich” (pronounced “white people”) and give it to them. That will always be the Democrat. A “pathway to citizenship” or whatever other euphemism you want to use will only hasten the demise of freedom and individual rights in this country.

There are many posters here who are moderate conservatives or just plain moderates. As long as they do not break any posting rules, there should be no problem.

Have fun wandering in the wilderness indefinitely.

That poll is contradicted by Rasmussen Reports which shows R and D voter identification as about even.

I take your refusal to continue this discussion as an admission of defeat. Thank you.

I am a moderately conservative Republican who is tired of the constant backstabbing and trouble making instigated by a tiny minority of malcontents within the GOP who would rather take the party down with them than change their ways and actually accomplish something.

Something else that you may not know since you are a troll, is that freerepublic is not a Republican web site, this is an Independent, conservative site.

This wasn’t a discussion....it was you doing what all liberals do...spewing with nothing to back it up.

I don’t waste my time on fools, democrats & illegal aliens.

Adios!

When illegals immigrants are made legal they will start paying more taxes and thus will not be as supportive of redistribution's schemes as supported by the Democrats.

No, they won’t. Overwhelmingly, they come from the poor, uneducated classes in Latin America. They will be in the group that receives “earned income credits,” not the shrinking group that actually pays taxes. If they are legalized, they will just cost us more.
