GOP sounds alarm on Latino voter gap [Graham, Steele, Martinez, Crist] [amnesty] [RINO wars]
Politico ^ | 2009-05-18 | Ben Smith

The Republican Party has scarcely begun to repair a wound that threatens to confine it to minority status: its 2006 collapse among Hispanic voters.

Driven by some Republicans’ sharp attacks on illegal immigration and — as many Hispanics perceived it, immigrants in general — Latino voters fled the GOP en masse in the midterm elections, then turned on John McCain, as well.

. . . . .

There are stirrings of a Republican response. Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) has spoken with Hispanic leaders about creating a new organization to back Latino candidates. Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele has made minority outreach a priority at the RNC. And some Republicans see an opening if Obama continues to defer action on overhauling immigration.

. . . . .

A spokesman for the National Republican Senatorial Committee, Brian Walsh, said that candidate recruitment for 2010 is still under way and noted that Martinez himself had endorsed Crist, in part for his moderate stance on immigration.

But Graham, who said he sympathized with the Senate Republican leadership’s decision to back a candidate with a good chance of winning, also raised concerns about the Florida decision.

“The key for our party is to have Hispanic candidates to carry our banner,” Graham said. “I don’t blame them for trying to make sure we don’t lose another seat in Florida. But at the same time, clearly Mr. Rubio is the type of person who would lead our party in Florida and the country to a new level.”

Graham said he’s considering forming a political action committee, or some other entity, aimed at recruiting strong Hispanic Republican candidates.

Most conservatives will still support the GOP regardless if the GOP supports a pathway to citizenship. Those one issue fringe voters who leave the party will not be missed and their numbers will be up for elsewhere. They will no longer have any representation whatsoever and will have no one to blame but themselves and their own intolerant beliefs.

Driven by some Republicans’ sharp attacks on illegal immigration and — as many Hispanics perceived it, immigrants in general... Latino voters fled the GOP en masse in the midterm elections, then turned on John McCain, as well.

Really? Well, that's quite a coincidence because the overwhelming number of illegals are Hispanic. Imagine that!In addition racist groups LaRaza, MEChA, LULAC, Hispanic Caucus et al protect them & support them at every turn because of their race then have the audacity & gall to cry race issues. So is OK for Hispanics to be racial?

has spoken with Hispanic leaders about creating a new organization to back Latino candidates.

Isn't that "racist"?? I'm pretty sure it is....No, I'm damn sure it is.

If you’ll take a look at the advocacy groups for illegal immigrants, you soon realize why some kooks like this guy are out there.

There is a thread of extreme racism running through some of these groups.

We are told that a Romney purge of "moderates" is already being prepared in case it is needed.

Told by who?

Gotta link for that?

Graham said he’s considering forming a political action committee, or some other entity, aimed at recruiting strong Hispanic Republican candidates.

So, Lindsey, we'll see millions floating into the campaign account for Marco Rubio, right?

No, you say? The white-guy Crist will get your support?

Rubio is "too conservative"?

Aha! So you want to set up a committee for liberal Hispanic Republican candidates who support your efforts to grant amnesty (or regularize or legalize or normalize or whatever word you want to label it next). Got it!

(SCUM!)

"McCain is seen as the leader of the GOP by most Republicans."

Really?...Not according to the Republicans I know. But then from the liberal tone of your posts so far, I take it you are one of those silk sock, Nelson Rockefeller, country club Republicans who send regular donations to Big Tent RINO Central (RNC).

You've insulted every conservative on this site. Keep that up and you're going to have a very short career on FR. You had better hope JimRob hasn't noticed your obnoxious presence yet on his forum.

And by the way, there is no such thing as "moderately conservative". It's a lot like trying to be "moderately pregnant" -- just doesn't work.

To the extent that Hispanics, especially recent Mexican immigrants affected by Amnesty. are low wage, low education, and unmarried, so too will they be Democrat. The Democrats would rejoice if these idiot Republicans pushing amnesty ever succeeded, even if it passed entirely through GOP efforts.

McCain was loathed by most Republicans last fall, and by even more today. He is probably thought by some to be the titular head of Republicanism today. I don’t believe the vast majority of Republicans see it that way.

From what I can see, most Republicans despise McCain and would not have voted for him at all had it not been for Palin. Any Republican who would embrace McCain is no conservative, not even close.

I am a moderately conservative Republican who is tired of the constant backstabbing and trouble making instigated by a tiny minority of malcontents within the GOP who would rather take the party down with them than change their ways and actually accomplish something.

LOL! How foolish. "Tiny minority". ROTFLMAO!!!

Every single time y'all try your "UP the middle" scenario, you get your heads handed to you. Every time Conservatism is firmly adhered to, you win by large margins.

It is liberal Republicans such as yourself who will doom the Republican party to the dustbin of history, and if that is the case, then good riddance.

Keep on forcing that "Giuliani Gambit". The Republican party is only a vehicle for the Conservative ideology. Without that, it has nothing to offer. When the vehicle no longer steers in the direction the passengers want it to go, they are likely to push it into the ditch and go find another one.
