Analysis: Democrats' security feud may cost them

WASHINGTON – Democrats just can't seem to get on the same page on national security — and it could cost them dearly on an issue Republicans have dominated for decades.

Increasingly, President Barack Obama and Democrats who run Congress are being pulled between the competing interests of party liberals and the rest of the country on Bush-era wartime matters of torture, detention and interrogation of suspected terrorists.

The Democratic Party's struggle over how to position itself on these issues is threatening to overshadow Obama's ambitious plans for energy, education and health care. It's also keeping the country looking backward on the eight years of George W. Bush's presidency, much to the chagrin of the new White House. And, it's creating an opening for an out-of-power GOP in an area where Democrats have made inroads.

Governing from the center and backtracking on a previous position, Obama decided this past week to fight the release of photos that show U.S. troops abusing prisoners. The president said he feared the pictures would "further inflame anti-American opinion" and endanger U.S. forces in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Bush-era wartime matters of torture, detention and interrogation of suspected terrorists.

I am so sick and tired of hearing the misnomer "torture" applied by Democrats and their allies in the MSM.

There was no torture.

If water boarding was torture, then I was "tortured" by the military during training. Whom do I sue to get my millions?

The military subjects its own to tough interrogations tactics to teach them how to resist.

This whole political witch hunt is a lame horse that needs to be shot and put out of its misery.

And Holder must be REALLY torn - going from being a defense attorney fighting hard for the release of Gitmo detainees, to being the Attorney General working hard for the release of Gitmo detainees. Wow, what a difference!

The only upside to this is that it may derail Healthcare nationalization, and Amnesty round 2.

” The Democratic Party’s struggle over how to position itself on these issues ..”

They’ve already positioned themselves.
The Democrat Party has come out of the closet and is in full throated support of terrorist “ rights “ and well being.
But, not a care for the security of the nation , the safety of the military fighting two wars or safeguarding the intelligence community.
The Republicans have been handed a golden opportunity for the next election.
Khalid Sheikh Mohammed and Abu Zubaydah are evil men championed by the Democrats.
Just like Willie Horton.
The commercials will write themselves as long as the Republicans candidates don’t go McCain on us.

She’s doing that only so she can help position Obama as the all-seeing eye who only wants to look forward and solve all the nation’s problems.

It's also possible that conservative Republicans may now be more open to dealing with him because of his moves on security issues.

No, they won't. Everyone knows Obambi is a lying and scheming narcissist who says and does whatever is politically expedient. If he could win an election by throwing our national security under the bus, he'd do it.

There’s only an infinite number of things that may cost the leftists successful re-election, which is the reason why leftists may do things to, either, end even having any more future elections, or do everything that they really can do to add to the leftist total voter rolls (add almost all criminals and illegal immigrants to the total pro-leftist voting numbers), or do both and then eventually have future elections happen again with the new pro-leftist total voter numbers.

They finally ran into something they couldn’t blame on George Bush, Rush Limbaugh, Sarah Palin, or Global Warming.

Amen! Words have meanings and the people miss using words in these circumstances know what they’re doing. At the very, very worst the prisoners were abused.

This story relates on how our lack of national security will dearly cost the dim party. How about how another attack on this country will cost us? These people are so self absorbed, they cannot fathom how the dim party puts us all at risk. Including the morons in the media.
