Hoping to recapture the grassroots energy of last months tea parties, Republican Govs. Mark Sanford of South Carolina and Rick Perry of Texas will host a tele-town hall Thursday thats being dubbed Tea Party 2.0.
The Republican Governors Association said it is expecting 30,000 people to participate in the town hall, which will take place roughly one month after the much-publicized anti-tax tea party rallies held in hundreds of locations across the country on April 15, the tax filing deadline.
Sanford and Perry will each speak for several minutes before opening up the town hall to up to an hour-long question and answer session.
RGA Executive Director Nick Ayers said that while the effort Thursday will be on a smaller scale than the April tea party rallies, it still represents a great opportunity to mobilize that support.
Both Perry and Sanford are favorites among the tax-averse tea party attendees.

Find a parade and get in front of it...
... I’m not encouraged...
I won’t knock it.
‘Bout time some of our Republican politicians stood up front in public and took a principled stand on the tyranny enveloping us.
It remains to be seen if they’ll use this “tele-forum” to do that. One can only hope.
“Sanford and Perry will each speak for several minutes before opening up the town hall to up to an hour-long question and answer session.”
Nice guys and well meaning, but we will go a lot further if we stick it in the TeaBaggers faces (excuse the pun) with a grassroots, good old fashioned barn burning rally that has everyone show up in DC on the fourth of July and overrun the place for miles. Just show up. You don’t have to drag a cannon from Vermont to Boston through waist high snow, ffor cripes sake, just show up one day, one time and shut these aholes up.
Hmmm an ANYBODY-WHO-WANTS-OBAMA-TO-FAIL-IS-AN-IDIOT-PARTY nah.
The best Astroturf money can buy!
These government insiders see the people as complete fools..play along when they should have been taken the lead, long ago. Maybe no one will notice...Jump on the band wagon, and give them some slick slogans
Throw the peasants a bone, maybe they'll shut up and go away.
Dump the “Tea Party” brand now. It’s so gay.
How ‘bout the “WE CAN’T AFFORD IT—PERIOD!” protests?
True, and me too. But that mindset brought us '06 and Obama. My hope is that the Tea Parties evolve into a grass roots ACORN scale activism, especially on the GOTV level...
These two govs just don't get it.
SIT DOWN, STFU and LISTEN TO US, THE PEOPLE!
That’s better than an I-RESPECT-AND-WILL-PROTECT-A-WOMAN’S-RIGHT-TO-CHOOSE-PARTY.
Or, it could even be an I-ALSO-SUPPORT-AN-ASSAULT-WEAPONS-BAN-PARTY.
Of course if it was a Slick Willard Romney party, it would be FOR bailouts instead of against, but there would probably be lots of catered food.
How about an I-HOPE-OBAMA-FAILS-THAT'S-RIGHT-I-SAID-IT party?
Wow, snappy comeback.
You know what would be really fun? An I-SAW-MY-FATHER-MARCH-WITH-MARTIN-LUTHER-KING-PARTY.
That would be some rip-roaring fun right there.
LOL ok. That's fine too.
Perry? Tax-averse? Hah! The Socialistic, RINO Gov. Goodhair is politicing for re-election, period.
IMO- he's drawing attention away from his Merck sponsored Giardasil payoff and the TTC debacle (which continues to rear it's ugly head).
-GOP governors plan Tea Party sequel-
“Both Perry and Sanford are favorites among
the tax-averse tea party attendees.”
-
“Sanford, who attended a tea party in Charleston,
gained national notice for his high-profile battle
with the White House over his resistance to federal
stimulus funds designated for his state.”
-
“Perry spoke at three tea parties across Texas
and helped promote the rallies during numerous radio
and television interviews prior to the events.
The Texas governor generated widespread publicity
after endorsing a state House resolution reaffirming
the states sovereignty, a veiled shot at the
presidents stimulus package.
I believe that our federal government has become
oppressive in its size, its intrusion into the lives
of our citizens, and its interference with the affairs
of our state, Perry said at the time.””

Good.
Unlike some others who have commented here,
I am glad to hear about this.
Republican Governors can get a lot of attention;
and I want as much attention to “the cause” as possible.
I might be wrong, but this sounds positive. I don’t live in either state so I don’t know either these Govs intimately but I have modestly positive opinions of both of these pols; Sanford for resisting the stimulus and Perry for his positive secession comment.
At any rate, these two sure seem like more acceptable leaders than the likes of McCain, Romney, Cantor and that sorry bunch of Rinos.
Sorry Rino-Republicans, this isn’t a GOP thing—its a Freedom thing. You can’t make it into your cats paw to get votes. Its not an anti-Obama thing—its an anti-big government thing and you Rinos are the cause of a lot of the problems. A Pox on both parties! Let the revolution begin.
Sanford gets it. Perry’s just trying to save his own political future.
