According to Newsweek's Ramin Setoodeh, "American Idol's" Adam Lambert could "be heading home" due to those homophobic Christians that watch every week.
Lambert, Setoodeh wrote in a May 12 blog post, "has been called the best Idol' singer in the history of the show, thanks to his Celine Dion-like pipes. But he's also one of the most controversial, thanks to his Marilyn Manson-like wardrobe and his (not-so) ambiguous sexuality."
Despite the fact that Randy, Simon and Paula all like Lambert, and he's garnered enough votes to compete in the semi-finals of "Idol," Setoodeh warned of a "possible roadblock" to a Lambert victory:
"Idol" is the No. 1 show on TV at least in part because it's so family-friendly, and it also appeals to a large demographic of Christian viewers. These are the same fans who made "High School Musical" and "Dancing With the Stars" huge TV hits. Many of "Idol's" previous winners - Jordin Sparks, Carrie Underwood, Ruben Studdard - are devout Christians. Coincidence? Perhaps. But we don't know much about Lambert's faith, and that might hurt him with Christian voters. He could be extremely religious, but he's kept his religious beliefs quiet.
Setoodeh pointed out the religious background of Lambert's competitors, Danny Gokey and Kris Allens and further tipped off Lambert fans, "both have gotten substantial interest from Christian blogs and websites."
Apparently those people who read "Christian blogs and websites" also have no ear for talent. Setoodeh concluded, "Adam is still the best singer in the competition. But since Idol isn't really a singing competition - despite what Randy Jackson tells you every week - don't be too shocked if there's a shocker elimination this week."
I stopped watching this year for that reason. Plus, ex-cons and Playboy girls just are too much.
As usual, Newspeak has it wrong.
I think the largest faction of idol watchers that may NOT vote for Mr. Lambert in the final 3 and/or final two toss-up are not upset or distracted by his supposed sexuality, whatever it is.
I think they agree with me.
My issue with him is that while I recognize his abundant singing talent, I also sense another abundant talent he seems to demonstrate - an acting talent and the use of it in the creation, the manufacture of a persona.
To me there is a great deal about Mr. Lambert that is more like a member of the rock group Kiss, than the very personal individual on the order of an Elvis;
and that type of pure stage-persona - as opposed to bringing forth one’s inner self - seems allot more a part of him than all the other current contestants and all the previous Idol winners.
I think he has abundant talent. I just don’t like the feeling that what he is presenting is much more manufactured, and artificial and less of some real Adam Lambert - whoever that is.
If one watches a Susan Boyle video clip on YouTube and then an Idol clip of Adam Lambert, I think what I am trying to say becomes obvious.
LOL!!!
Adam’s shocking photos. Warning - just plain skanky and evil.

Don’t forget the amazing Mandissa!
I think Adam is technically better and very talented, but I just darn LIKE Kris. OK, fine, I have a cougar-crush on him. But he’s my favorite. Danny’s my second. Funny thing about Danny - I’m always sort of thinking I’m not going to like him as he begins his song, then get my mind changed 10 seconds in.
And I’m proud that he and Danny are Christians. I look forward to their future CDs.
Between his photo in my post #24 and this video, we can see that you’re right.
Adam before Idol (wholesome video)

Hardly. He's a theatrical singer. He has a future on Broadway.
He's not someone you'd listen to on the radio.
Is it my imagination or has this become down right silly?
Call me nuts! Adam is BY FAR the best singer AI has ever had.
Adam sings well every week but cannot resist the one or two SCREAMS in every song.
I am the same this year, there is no one to really love.
Adam does have the best voice but he's soooo bizarre.
It is young girls who do most of the voting and in their fantasies they can’t see being with Adam.
‘I wanna be your backdoor man’. I bet that was the line that motivated Adam the most.
I think I’ll vote tonight! I have voted only twice since the first season and I wouldn’t vote for Adam if you paid me because of this silly article.
You see, I don’t particularly consider his picture you presented as “before idol” as, in his case, representing something particularly “wholesome” (in the ‘before’ case’) or not.
As extremely good as is his singing ability, I do not think singing is what HE excels at the most. Both pictures represent him in the form that I think is MOST of what he is, as an entertainer, which is as an ACTOR, a creator of personas or even ‘a persona’, for the stage affect.
As such, I don’t watch him and find an individual, a core human, individual personality that belongs to him and with which I could try to identify. I know I am simply watching an act. But, with other “Idol” winners and with Lambert’s top Idol competitors, as much as they try to give something emotionally independent from themselves, it seems, unlike Adan, an attempt to bring the actual self into the song, as opposed to, with Adam, produce a self, a persona he wants to present the song with.
My friend said that Adam takes parts from every entertainer he’s ever seen and then acts that part.
......the inside view I got from a girl I know that auditioned......
one can only wonder about the tales told by a woman scorned
So our opinions should carry some weight.
