What a Future Ex-Democrat Looks Like
American Spectator ^ | May 12, 2009 | Robert Stacy McCain

Posted on 05/12/2009 5:39:13 AM PDT by RobinMasters

Back in November, I predicted: "The yawning gap between Hope and reality will produce a bumper crop of ex-Democrats." Yet the crop had already been sowed and, at The American Thinker, ex-Democrat "Robin" explains that her conversion began more than a year ago:

You know, I was a card carrying democrat for many years. It took the responsibility of being a parent to bring me back to reality.

Why the hate for those wanting to change their views? Opinions evolve. I know there are some here who say that your morals should not change, but as life goes on and I gain more and more of a pool of experience to draw on, mine certainly have changed to the more conservative side.

In other words, I cordially invite anyone who feels the need to judge another persons motives and motivations to fornicate off and decease.

Let them come, *show* them that you offer something different,Teach them what they have been lied to about.

Otherwise you are just a bag of hot gas like the dems.

Where is Orange County?

It's the county with Chapel Hill/Carrboro in it. It also has a huge but thinly-populated northern half which is very conservative, but usually gets swamped out by the southern half. Most of them up there are conservative Democrats, and that's whose been changing and letting us know about it - they're very unhappy with how liberal the Dems are, and it's finally driven them to overcome the power of their great-great-great-granddaddies being Democrats!

I believe that since "the Orange Co. NC GOP" was posted - it's North Carolina.

You make some very good points. Life is a process and we all change over time. I’ve made some very bad decisions in my past and now have the clarity of wisdom. I can’t go back and change things, but I can be sure not to make the same mistake again. I appreciate your honesty.

Exactly!! I also welcome every one of these new Republicans. We need everyone of them to build a majority.

We need to stop fantasizing that hoards of democrats are going to “see the light”.

It will not happen. And if we don’t recognize the mindset of the common Obamatron, we will not make any progress.

To most democrats, the Presidency is an award, not the position of a public servant. To the common democrat, the election of Obama to the Presidency bestowed our highest honor to the black race. To democrats, the election ended racism. To them, this is huge.

And it is why they cannot understand our objection to an unqualified, inexperienced socialist.

To get democrats to stop supporting Obama, they will need to see something so incredibly bad from Obama that they will (in their minds) give up a major victory to end racism. Thus:

It doesn’t matter that Obama is an incompetent diplomat.
It doesn’t matter that Obama is encouraging Congress to spend money we don’t have.
It doesn’t matter that Obama is taking steps to make America unsafe.
It doesn’t matter that Obama is taking away our freedom.

The Supeme mix will not change. The two justices that will be replaced during Bozo’s first(and hopefully only)term are left wing libtards already, the count will stay the same, with 4 and 4 and one swing vote.

I get the impression that a lot of people in the "mushy middle" voted for Obama because they it would be cool...

Then there were those who thought John McCain wasn't worth a vote. The GOP just plain blew it when that leftist ran on the GOP ticket. I was originally going to vote third party until Sarah joined the ticket. My vote was really for her.

Unless the GOP runs a super-dooper candidate, I will never throw my hat in that ring again. I'll vote my heart with the third party. The GOP needs to get a spine and return to the Principles of their constituents.

Absolutely. White guilt.

There's something else at play here. I just had a conversation with an acquaintance and the subject of the Tea Parties came up. This is an individual that I happen to know doesn't make a lot of money. It would shock me if he paid any income taxes at all, yet he is all for the Tea Parties and wanted to know where he could attend one. I doubt he voted for Obama, but I think he is very put off by the Obama fiscal policies, no, not put off, absolutely scared to death.

So, if we have a situation where Obama supporters are embarrassed by him, and blue collar workers who benefit from his tax policies become united against him out of fear for their jobs, then we have here the makings of a quick exit for Zero in 2012.

I agree, AND we need to work to get back the conservatives who've left. And that means bringing the Party back to the Right.

The other day, I saw some leftard goober (I think it was Charles Johnson at LGF) crowing about how the GOP's identification share has dropped from 32% in 2004, to 28% in 2006, to 25% in 2008. This leftard was arguing that this is evidence that the GOP needs to move left, since it's "obviously" driving away moderates.

Nevermind the fact that the GOP has been moving steadily left since 2000, and has been bleeding a proportional percentage of its membership. Nevermind that conservatism IS mainstream, as both polls and election results abundantly show, and therefore staying to the Right would INCREASE our market share. Shoot, I've left the GOP at least a couple of times. I left when McCain won SC, and the only reason I rejoined was because I realised how stupid the idea of a conservative third party was, and decided it's a better bet to work within the Party to recapture it.

The way I figure it, the pool of registered voters in this country is ~200 million. This means the GOP loss from 32% to 25% (i.e. 7%) represents ~14 million voters who've ceased identifying themselves with the Party, and who probably also have given up on voting for the GOP as well.

Couple this with the fact that the total *increase* in votes cast in 2008 over 2004 was way down. In 2008, we saw a total of 9.0 million more votes cast from the 2004 total - note that this includes the unprecedented GOTV effort (legal and illegal) by the Obama campaign. Now, in 2004, we saw 16.8 million more votes cast than in 2000, and in 2000 we saw 9.1 million more votes cast than over 1996, even though neither of those years saw significant upswings from the "normal" GOTV pattern of either Party.

Given the massive GOTV by Obama's campaign, we should have seen a lot larger upswing in votes cast than we did. I would posit that part of this depression in voter turnout despite the GOTV efforts was due to a significant part of those 14 million conservatives not turning out for the GOP (and would attribute the 2006 midterm losses to the same). If those conservatives had had a truly conservative candidate to be excited about and vote for, we may well be talking abotu President Sanford or President Palin today.

I think the numbers and common sense refute the "we have to move left to pick up voters" nonsense.

So you don’t believe in ridding the GOP of the likes of the McCains, Steele, Powell, the Maine RINO Senators, etc. etc.? Maybe you should ask your friends at DU, they would love to have all of the above as demonrats.

Your reply proves my point, once a rat, always a rat. I don’t hear conservatives on here talking about changing their morals then telling people to “fornicate” themselves, sounds like something you would hear on DU.

You think maybe a CONSERVATIVE candidate might bring a deep enough pool with them? Maybe we should try it for a change.
