Obama says healthcare overhaul could save U.S. trillions (BS Alert!)

President Barack Obama will aim on Monday to build support for a sweeping overhaul of the U.S. healthcare system by highlighting a drive for greater efficiency he predicts could save trillions of dollars.

Obama has invited several large trade groups, such as the American Medical Association, America's Health Insurance Plans and the American Hospital Association, to an event to discuss ways to wring cost savings from the health system.

At a 12:30 p.m. EDT event, the trade groups will present Obama a letter pledging to reduce the growth of health spending by 1.5 percentage points annually through more efficient practices, according to White House officials who briefed reporters on the event.

The cost savings would be achieved through steps such as streamlining paperwork and changing the way hospitals deliver and bill for services to patients.

Obama aides said that given the explosion in healthcare costs projected to take place in coming years as the U.S. population ages, the slower growth rate for health care would save $2 trillion over 10 years.

"We cannot continue down the same dangerous road we've been traveling for so many years, with costs that are out of control, because reform is not a luxury that can be postponed, but a necessity that cannot wait," Obama will say, according to excerpts.

The only way to save "insurance costs" is to have people pay more....

Seems everyone is on a pill today...and those pills are VERY EXPENSIVE.

Actually, prescriptions SAVE huge amounts of money, because they make many other types of treatment, including surgery, unnecessary. Besides keeping people alive.

Of course, from the point of view of a government-run health care system, there is NO BENEFIT to keeping anybody alive, because living people DRAIN RESOURCES out of the system. The more people die, sooner rather than later, the better.

ESPECIALLY TROUBLEMAKERS.

Why do I feel those hands on my back bending me over for another receipt of the shaft from Obama.?

Does anyone really believe that the real cost of health care is the cost of it’s paperwork, and the way they send out their bills?

A good start would be for the AMA, AHIP and AHA to tell Obama to take his White House meeting and stick it where the sun don’t shine!

Two observations:

Trial Lawyers have cost the health care industry a bloody fortune: not just the legal costs, settlement costs but ongoing liability insurance costs - start there.

When you’re a hammer, every problem looks like a nail. When you’re from Chicago, all the world looks corrupt, inefficient and stupid enough to let Democrats manage the entire world. Obama and Rahm Emanuel are from Chicago.

Sure, and zerO is going to halve the deficit by 2010. If that comes about I will not post anything on this web site ever again.

For the healthcare industry to claim they will cut $200 billion a year based on projected growth is also BS because it's an assumption that they were to grow an average of 10% per year and if that is the case then the industry just told investors to screw of.

Obama says healthcare overhaul could save U.S. trillions...

And Obama knows about trillions, since he already managed to waste a couple since taking office...

Maybe they should write a article named, "Obama resignation could save U.S. trillions over the next 4 years"

It seems to me that when the Republicans wanted to overhaul SS, they were told it would be too expensive. Isn’t overhauling healthcare too expensive?

< sarcasm >

We here in the gov't feel that pain killers are considered a luxury item that we choose not to spend money on. You will have to simply suffer and besides, it is a part of your puritan heritage.

“HOW CAN WE STOP THIS HEALTH CARE ISSUE?”

First, don't let the industry con us by claiming they will save $2 trillion in 10 years. It can't happen unless the industry tells the shareholders to screw off.
Second, make sure every taxpayer knows that just the downpayment that Obama proposes will cost every taxpayer over $4,000 in just the first years of UHC.

true. The military saves money by denying sevice members the right to sue for malpractice. Doctors who screw up are simply transferred to another post along with any witnesses.

The other way to save money is to cap the cost for each person. Once you hit that limit, the only medicine allowed in for suicide.

All those Baby Boomers retiring are going to be a drain on Medicare and Social Security. Killing them off by denial of health care, phrased more artfully, no doubt, by some PR firm, will allow the government to skirt total fiscal collapse; at least for a few more years. And for the government solons, it’s all about them surviving one more day; public be damned.
