Waving signs with anti-tax slogans and carrying American flags, crowds gathered in support of less government spending and lower taxes in numerous cities yesterday. The "tea party" element of the gatherings was meant to reference the Boston Tea Party, a pre-Revolutionary War event in which colonists dumped tea in the Boston Harbor to protest the British king's tax on what was a colonial staple. Many of the flags flown yesterday were historical and reminiscent of the American Revolution.
"Tea Parties" Increase Sales for Flags
One of the flags seen in abundance at these "Tea Parties" is the Gadsden flag, an historical American flag with a yellow field depicting a rattlesnake coiled and ready to strike. Positioned below the snake is the legend "DONT TREAD ON ME" [sic]. The flag was designed by and is named after American general and statesman Christopher Gadsden. It was also used by The United States Marine Corps as an early motto flag.
For many the "Tea Parties" are very political, for others the events are purely business -- and really good business. Flag companies and other retailers carrying patriotic items have seen these flags fly off the shelves. According to Kerry McCoy, owner of FlagandBanner.com in Little Rock, Arkansas, "I wish I would have thought of it sooner and bought all the Gadsden Flags on the planet. This week Arkansas' FlagandBanner.com along with every other flag dealer in America has sold out of Gadsden flags and First Navy Jack flags in protest of potential tax increases." McCoy further stated, "If the flag had a snake or cannon on it, we sold out."

I’ve been flying the First Navy Jack since Nov. 4.
Somebody ought to check to see how many of the invoice copies the Feds have collected to see who these were mailed to...
Sir, I’m afraid you’re probably right...
I love it and I am happy to explain why it is flying to others too! :)
“Somebody ought to check to see how many of the invoice copies the Feds have collected to see who these were mailed to...”
I told the guy at the flag store to be sure to give a copy of the receipt to Homeland Security. He just laughed.
Fight back this way:
1. Turn off your television. No more sports or Foxnews or other corporate media. That includes Limbaugh, who feeds people’s prejudices and wastes their energy. If you’ve done these already, move to step two.
2. Get to know your neighbors. Societal fragmentation is a prime weakness for conservatives (which I am...though I am not a Republican). Get to know as many people as possible.
3. Remember, they want all your money. Starve the beast. See my tagline.
4. Learn about the Founding Fathers. I emphasize those gentlemen in the classes I teach, and see getting back to fundamentals as most important.
5. Stop arguing, worrying, and wasting energy—act locally.
Stop worrying about things you can do nothing about—like the Republican Party. Change starts with YOU.
And you, sir, are why the conservative movement is in decline and is, quite probably, going extinct.
You’re losing, and rapidly. Look to yourself for the reason.
Another good flag is that of the Whiskey Rebellion, For session no flag is better than the Bonnie Blue. Maybe the flag from Ben Franklin’s cartoon, the cut up snake. The Flag of the Culpepper Minute Men ia also attractive.
I have been flying the yellow Rattlesnake Flag for five years. It should become the flag of the Conservative movement. If we ever form a party the Rattlesnake should be our mascot—no elephants or donkeys for us!
You sound like someone who needs Limbaugh to reinforce his own mistaken views. Sad.
The movement needs leaders, not people who follow anyone who gets them upset and angry and nodding their head in agreement. There’s plenty of that to go around with the “Change/Hope” crowd.
Take responsibility and think for yourself and take action locally. Or continue your slide into irrelevance.
“If we ever form a party the Rattlesnake should be our mascotno elephants or donkeys for us!”
That works for me...along with a new party. Maybe a new Republic.
Think.
Dont’ feel.
I gotta go. Have a nice Saturday.
I still have a 48 star American flag that’s worn, faded and with a few holes in it. I still fly that flag on some holidays.
It seems to have a history. It seems meaningful to me.
I’m proud of it. I’m proud of what it has been through.
I still love that old worn, tattered, faded flag. It reminds me of my old career US Army (Airborne All The Way!) dad (RIP) and the love and pride he had for this country.
I’ll be getting a Gadsden flag and a bumper sticker soon too.
Here comes the internment camps to hold all of us ....
You lost me at “that includes Limbaugh”. Mr. Limbaugh is one of the few that we can actually depend on for the truth. Don’t tread on Rush!
Check out this video about the Gadesden Flag. I have got one and recommend everyone get one.
