When a North Carolina woman accused the federal government last week of abusing the Patriot Act to imprison her teenage son for allegedly making bomb threats, the mother's allegation caused quite an uproar, including calls to free 16-year-old Ashton Lundeby.
But a new report by Wired News suggests that, not only was the teenager an online superstar in rogue tech communities for his prank phone calls, but his mother may have known all along that the boy was conspiring with others to make bomb threats.
Lundeby, known online as "Tyrone," allegedly had progressed into selling his services as a threatmaker, charging schoolchildren from across the country $5 apiece to place threatening, Internet-based phone calls that would cause administrators to shut down their schools, Wired News reports.

Candidate for Mother of the Year award tomorrow?
Listening to momma gave me the creeps, she’s a drama queen, but a poor actress.
My cousin got 6 months for a 1st offense bomb threat when he was 13. My aunt told him to ask for a court appointed attorney and enjoy his stay.
And what is absolutely disgusting to me is none of the freaked out whackos on consipracy forums and blogs who claimed the Patriot Act was being used against this supposedly innocent church going, sweet, kind, loving child over the last week have come forward to admit they were idiots. Disgusting bunch of richard heads. No wonder drips like Osama can get elected.
Bomb threats were so common a few decades ago; high schools had “Bomb-threat forms”. The threat was usually made the day of a test. The students almost always got caught — because they usually phoned from home & the calls were easily traced. (The students have the tech advantage these days.)
The real question is should this kid be held under the Patriot Act with very limited access to legal counsel...?
When Freepers start being arrested for advocating treason (e.g., secession, tax revolt, non-compliance with unconstitutional government mandates) then maybe some of the posters here will start rethinking their support of the statist tyranny that is gaining momentum in our once free nation....
Anyone who listened in, WHILE the crimes were in process, is an accomplice and should also be charged with a crime!
Anyone who PAID to listen to this activity should get the book thrown at them!
The mother should be in jail, as well!
People who make the claim that they are being held under the 'Patriot Act' typically turnout out to be close relatives of the boy who cried wolf.
Count me as one of the suspicious ones.

This is a story posted today. There's a court imposed gag order on this, the kid has been held over for 2 months for what appears to be a series of prank calls.
Actions have consequences, but when the government becomes this overbearing against a kid who really poses no threat to the nation, what will they do in the future to those who advocate civil disobedience to what they see as the soft tyranny starting to impose itself on our country...?
People like Lundeby's mother know that if they blame the 'Patriot Act' for their son's arrest they will get kneejerk support from liberals in the media and black helicopter conservatives on the right.
I suppose my only real concern at this point is that the kid is being held without bail which seems unreasonable given the circumstances of the story....
Read the article. He was making bomb threats for a living. People would pay him money and he’d phone in a bomb threat for them. I think it is a good idea to deny bail to someone like that.
Best of luck to you.
” the kid has been held over for 2 months for what appears to be a series of prank calls.”
Asking the tobbacconist if he has Prince Albert in a can is a crank call.
Making a bomb threat that forces the evacuation of buildings costing tens of thousands of dollars in lost revenue and soak up law enforcement and public safety assets for hours on end isn’t. Making a series of bomb threats and getting paid for it isn’t civil disobedience, it’s serious criminal activity.
Interesting. You can use paypal to pay for bomb threats but not to buy firearms related stuff.
