After 26 years of marriage, I have the educational background to know that this is a subject best left alone.

They had to do a study to figure this out? [ducking head]

Sounds like they grossly underestimate women.

I want to see the study that discloses the percentage of women who can communicate clearly and concisely.
Never mind. I already know.

Not much we can say when it’s straight from the women themselves....except that maybe the men weren’t wanting to fess up to listening to gossip and eavesdropping. I know a few men who are more like old women than the old women I know!

Sounds like they grossly underestimate women.Perhaps they meant liberal women.
My wife not only listens...14 years later she'll repeat it back word for word. Scary stuff.
My 9 YO daughter remembers things from 3 YO on.
I'm checking the PC calendar to see what day it was yesterday. I think I worked...more coffee!

People hear what/when they are engrossed with the topic.
It's not the gossip per se, but the fact that one is interested in the topic.
As a man thinketh, so is he.

After 20 years of marriage, I was gratified to learn that my wife’s listening problems are not unique. I concur with another poster that women have extraordinary memories, e.g. recalling details of meals eaten and clothes worn at gatherings years ago. But I’ve also noticed my wife has short-term memory glitches that are consistently biased in her favor, e.g., what time we agreed to leave for an event or what time I said I would pick her up. My tentative hypothesis is that women hear what they want to hear and this newest study confirms that line of thinking, IMHO.

I've encountered a number of women who had this characteristic. They weren't listening to what I was saying, but were hearing what they wanted to hear.

I’ve been married for 28 years so I could have told you that without reading this article.

I don't think its that .
Men do it to as a matter of fact I'm guilty as well especialy if the woman is trying to be subtle.
I think what this shows is that you pay attention to what interest you a Woman is more likely to be more interested in gossip than a man but there are things that I enjoy ( sports cars) that most woman don't really care about.
