The Obama administration will not release terrorists from Guantanamo Bay into neighborhoods in the United States, Attorney General Eric Holder told Congress on Thursday as he sought to reassure worried lawmakers.
"We don't have any plans to release terrorists," Holder testified at a Senate hearing on the Obama administration's budget for the Justice Department. The budget proposal released Thursday requests up to $160 million to close the detention facility in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. But he also said some of the detainees at the facility will be let go, indicating the administration believes some held there are not terrorists. Asked after the hearing if he believes some current Guantanamo detainees are innocent, Holder did not answer.
The attorney general faced repeated questions from lawmakers about his plans for closing Guantanamo. President Barack Obama has ordered the center shuttered by January 2010.
Republicans critical of Obama's plan claim Guantanamo detainees cannot legally be brought to the United States because federal law bars entry to anyone who has received terrorist training...
Republicans in Congress are fighting any such move, saying the presence of detainees would endanger communities that receive them...

With our immigration enforcement, what difference does it make where they release them? They’ll wind up here if they want, and our present government won’t evict them.
Game, set, match!
And not 3 hours ago, this was going to cost only $100 million. It went up to $160 million since i got back from lunch. Are they giving these clowns $1,000,000 each for expense allowances or something?
No, they’ll put them out in Mexico.
Tijuana maybe.
You have to wonder what they are going to do with $100 million. Build a nice resort for the Cubans? Disassemble the camp and buildings and ship the pieces to Texas? I’d like to see their “budget” for this project. BO could almost double what he’s “cutting out of the budget” by just punting on the closure.
Yeah right; and they are going to release them. Words fail me. It’s like they have a death wish for innocent citizens.
What is the point? I'd much rather keep terrorists with other terrorists lest they take advantage of the opportunity to teach lesser criminals the joys of jihad.
It’s like BO has a death wish for his country.
Oh oh. That means they will.
He said:
"We don't have any plans to release terrorists,"
Then when this is considered:
But he also said some of the detainees at the facility will be let go, indicating the administration believes some held there are not terrorists. Asked after the hearing if he believes some current Guantanamo detainees are innocent, Holder did not answer.
When he says they won't release terrorists, what he ISN'T saying is that the Obama admin doesn't consider some/all of the detainees as "terrorists."
I am not sure on this one, part of me would love to see them transferred out of club Gitmo and sent to a super max where the guards dont have to kiss their a** all day.
I am sure they will get along just fine with the Arian Brotherhood, Surenos, MS-13 and others. They will beg to go back to Cuba.
Thwart criminal activity there is Neighborhood Watch
We should begin America watch. If a terrorist shows up in your neighborhood the alarm can be sounded and the hit squad can be called in.
Was he under oath? Although that's no guarantee this POS wouldn't lie.
You beat me to it. Well played, sir.
Yet.
Any terrorists released in the US should be released into blue states. It's only fair---they voted for BO and closing Gitmo.
Obonics to English translation: "Plans subject to change."
I agree
Holder is a textbook case of affirmative action run amok. This clown would have a tough time pouring urine out of a boot with the directions written on the heel.
