Sen. Jeff Sessions (Ala.), the ranking Republican on the Senate Judiciary Committee, said Wednesday he could consider a gay nominee for the nations highest court.
Im not inclined to think thats an automatic disqualification, Sessions said of a gay nominee. He said he intends to consider only the nominees legal judgment when deciding his support for Justice David Souters proposed replacement.
I may disagree with some legal opinion on those issues, but I think fundamentally it will be up to the president to submit somebody who would unite the country and would be a clear statement of a mainstream judge who commits himself to the law, said Sessions, who will have a key role in any confirmation debate.
Sessionss comments werent voiced universally in the GOP or in conservative circles Wednesday, suggesting a split among Republicans on whether the sexual orientation of a nominee should be a factor.
One Republican senator on Wednesday warned a gay nominee would be too polarizing.

Jeff needs to join the Rat party of snakes Homos and Pedophiles.
I don’t care what their sexual orientation is as long as they respect the 2A along with all of the others. God knows few others do.
Let’s be honest. When you consider what Barry is likely to send up as a Supreme Court nominee, who or what they like to sleep with is probably going to be one of their least problematic aspects.
The Constitution bans gays from sitting on the Supreme Court?
Why are you attacking Sessions? That’s exactly what he said.
Is the Souter seat the “queer” seat now?
He appointed David Ogden, whose cachet is defending pornographers and pornography, to the position of Deputy Attorney General.
No doubt he knows the kind of folks Obama will need to have in mind for the court.
Apparently Sessions has not learned from the bloodletting our party underwent in the 08 elections.
I have two words for Sessions: Arlen Specter.
And Ginsburg isn’t?
The Republicans and the Family Research Council quoted in the article do a pretty good job of deflecting the question-which was clearly intended to box in the Republicans as bigots and intolerant knuckle dragging homophobes.
Maybe Republicans are finally learning how to play the media gotcha game.
Hatch has already pre cleared the nominee. Now this buffoon says he is ok with a homosexual. They wonder why we keep losing seats
“If Sessions said, ‘Absolutely not,’ they [the liberal media] would have tarred and feathered him.”
... and that’s a bad thing? I’m proud of being considered a ‘homophobe’ by the Leftist militants.
I am “attacking” Sessions because of the mere mention of “gay” within 50 miles of a discussion of a Supreme court nominee.
EVERYTHING that happens in the free World is Not automatically a Gay issue or a Female issue or a Black issue.
Americans are over that.....lets stick to the Issue without sexual distractions and have a Discourse on Substance related to Constitutional law.
Quit giving/voicing Token concessions on matters unrelated to SCOTUS nominees. There is NO QUEER QUOTA for Nominees.
We’re talking Constitutional Law.
He’s just having fun with them. Do you really think Jeff Sessions wants a gay nominee? He’s being smart, not falling into the trap.
