Sen. Jeff Sessions (Ala.), the ranking Republican on the Senate Judiciary Committee, said Wednesday he could consider a gay nominee for the nations highest court.
Im not inclined to think thats an automatic disqualification, Sessions said of a gay nominee. He said he intends to consider only the nominees legal judgment when deciding his support for Justice David Souters proposed replacement.
I may disagree with some legal opinion on those issues, but I think fundamentally it will be up to the president to submit somebody who would unite the country and would be a clear statement of a mainstream judge who commits himself to the law, said Sessions, who will have a key role in any confirmation debate.
Sessionss comments werent voiced universally in the GOP or in conservative circles Wednesday, suggesting a split among Republicans on whether the sexual orientation of a nominee should be a factor.
One Republican senator on Wednesday warned a gay nominee would be too polarizing.

Damned disappointed in Sessions. You either fight these socialist bastards or give up your seat to someone who will.
The more I hear, the more I think our country is lost.
Has he lost his ever lovin mind?
I would have to agree with that Jim.
It doesn’t really matter, Souter is probably gay anyway.
That about covers it.
Oh, no. Just as you think this pile of !@(*# we’re in couldn’t get any worse...
Sen. Jeff Sessions (Ala.), the ranking Republican on the Senate Judiciary Committee, said Wednesday he could consider a gay nominee for the nations highest court.
Sen. Jeff Sessions (Ala.), the ranking Republican on the Senate Judiciary Committee is a complete moronic idiot and needs to go then. Him and all 535 members of the House and Senate.
Can’t we just file a massive class action against the Federal Government for violation of the Constitution.
Hey, while we’re at it...why choose someone with a law degree? Why not a hairdresser?
The lib side doesn’t seem to know the law anyway.
Actually, gay doesn’t bother me. It’s the lib part that scares me.
Nope. He’s thrown it in Zero’s face.
He’s goading the Clown in the White House. By putting it out there, it is now in the public’s eye. And the homosexual community.
Zero will have to make a choice now, and he’s going to anger a lot of people either way.
No, I think he’s making his point. It’s not a question of whether the judge is gay, but whether he is a gay ACTIVIST.
These days, the two are nearly interchangeable—but not quite. There are still a few people who you wouldn’t even know are gay, because they don’t consider it a matter to publicize and force on everyone else.
It's not possible that a straight guy could get beaten up going for a "late night jog" in a public men's room known for sodomistic activity?
You’re right, to allow a discussion of such an appointment shows a huge shift in judgment. To argue with the insane is to grant them a measure of sanity that they don’t possess. And at the very least the homosexual orientation is disordered. That’s so obvious that it is appalling to hear such nonsense considered.
Welcome Justice Barney Frank
And I'm living in an alternative universe.
