Baldacci Signs Same-Sex Marriage Into Law
Portland Press Herald ^ | 5/6/09 | Matt Wickenheiser

Democratic Gov. John Baldacci today signed into law a bill allowing gay marriage, making Maine the fifth state to allow same-sex marriage.

The governor's signature came barely an hour after the measure won final approval in the state Legislature, with a final 31-8 vote in favor in the Maine Senate.

Baldacci said in a statement that while he has opposed gay marriage in the past, "I have come to believe that this is a question of fairness and ofequal protection under the law, and that a civil union is not equal to civil marriage.

"This new law does not force any religion to recognize a marriage that falls outside of its beliefs," the governor said. "It does not require the church to perform any ceremony with which it disagrees. Instead, it reaffirms the separation of church and state.

"It guarantees that Maine citizens will be treated equally under Maine’s civil marriage laws, and that is the responsibility of government," Baldacci said....

Marriage is a sacrament. They can call it whatever word they want but it will NEVER be marriage. Not in God’s eyes, nor in mine. And I’m not a big fan of civil marriages either, for whatever it’s worth. God has to be in the midst of the marriage. If He is not, what is it really? It’s marriage in the state’s eyes.

Oh I just know people will slam me for this but I think it’s a spiritual thing. I am not going to argue this with anyone. I just have my beliefs, based on scripture.

"This new law does not force any religion to recognize a marriage that falls outside of its beliefs," the governor said.

Yet. That will come in due time, as the leftist ratchet tightens down inexorably on what's left of our liberty and common sense.

Why the sudden rush to change the laws of marriage in all the states? Word come done for stimulus from the White House? HMMMM. Selling you soul. Good job Mr. Balducci.

How long can we sit and watch everything sacred being stripped from us in America? How long?

I am dumbfounded. Thirty-years and not a single state has the balls to ban abortion. Less than 5 years, five states celebrate brown stinky holes as acceptable for marriage.

My wife asked me why I’m opposed to gay marriage. I gave her a host of reasons surrounding the fact that marriage is a beneficial contract between society and the married couple. She was surprised that I gave no religious reasons. You can win this argument without getting into valid yet subjective religious issues.

Let’s hope a vote of the people is allowed.

As Maine goes, so goes Vermont. Now the gays from both states can date each other, get married, and raise. . .well, raise nothing. Another sad day for the new USofA.

Dr. Judith Chamberlin holds up a text message proposing to her partner Karen Marlin after the Maine Senate passed the same-sex marriage bill today. Marlin's answer was "You bet."

Remember when the Left mocked Sarah Palin for "saying" 'you betcha'? Sounds like such a midwestern accent for an Alaskan. looks like diverse couples also use the term.

He (Bill Ayers) also writes about the Weathermen’s sexual experimentation as they tried to ‘’smash monogamy.’’ The Weathermen were ‘’an army of lovers,’’ he says, and describes having had different sexual partners, including his best male friend.
