Barack Obama takes motorcade on trip to satisfy fast food craving
Telegraph (U.K.) ^ | May 6, 2009

President Barack Obama shunned his usual lunch in the White House and head straight towards a burger bar to satisfy an apparent craving for fast food.

With a similarly peckish vice president Joe Biden in tow, the head of state fired up the motorcade for a brief trip to a suburban eatery by the name of Ray's Hell Burger.

Despite the VIP status of the two diners, normal rules applied. Both men were forced to stand in line for their food.

In a change to the scheduled lunch arrangements – the pair were due to eat in the Oval Office – Mr Obama opted for a cheddar cheese burger, medium with spicy mustard. His right-hand man went for a similarly classic American dish.

Perhaps in a bid to repay the Washington press corps for largely favourable reporting, a generous-minded Mr Obama even offered to feed the gathered hacks.

"Who's taking orders here? My treat to the pool. Who wants a burger?" the president asked. Take up was mixed.

Surprised staff appeared reluctant to take money for the order, but Mr Obama insisted.

"We're paying, or these people are gonna write about how we're freeloading," he said, referring to the newsmen and women present.

Having paid – even leaving a tip of five dollars – Mr Obama and Mr Biden sat down at a table and had their lunch.

They emerged from the burger bar shortly after 1pm and by 1.15pm they were back in the White House.

Not all were satisfied with the encounter though. The pooled print reporter ended her report with the words: "I'm still waiting for my burger."

Well, at least they didn’t fly the burger-flipper on a private jet to make them at the White House.

We have personal threads about Obama and Biden everytime they fart. Makes us look like those radical lib sites who critize every movement and personal item about Bush.

If I was president, I'd be at the food joints at least once a week. And no lines because the population of the area would be reduced after my lay-offs of government employees.

Well, they did stand in line like everyone else to order & be served their hamburgers. Got to give them points for that ... fair is fair.

Zero and Plugs are truly everymen — in touch with the common man.

From the NY Post.

“Although a burger goes for a reasonable $7, the yuppie hot spot boasts an extensive selection of artisanal cheeses that cost extra, including aged Danish blue, Chimay a la Bere and Epoisse. They’ve even got an $18 foie gras-topped burger.”

Yep. Not yuppie elitist limousine liberals at all. /s

Ray’s Hell Burger isn’t bad. But Five Guys is definitely better.

This is so unprofessional that it must be true. Obama seems to think the presidency is a joke.

I’m afraid that isn’t going to happen..I had a discussion yesterday with a liberal on the COST of this little trip including secret service, limos, and security required for the #1 and #2 in the nation in the same place at the same time, plus lost wages for those caught in traffic..etc..etc..

Needless to say, the liberal staunchly defended this trip, I didn’t..

Do we have any idea how much this foray into the land of the little people cost the taxpayers?
