No one has been charged with false reports yet. False reports can get people killed, and should be taken seriously. I suspect that this was caused by California transplants.

A good read for those that think our Armed forces will be the ones to hammer the citzenry in the event of civil unrest!

This sounds like some California libs that either moved to or were driving through Stevensville, MT. They saw a normal Montana guy carrying a rifle. (Not unusual in Montana) These libs, being bread to think all gun toting people are deranged psychopaths, called the Sheriff and exaggerated the situation based on their fear of fire arms.

If they find these fools they should be required to pay for the deployment of the Sheriffs Deputies and the Sytevensville City Police. That is my assessment of the situation.

I lived in Montana for 5 years and used to do business with a company in Stevensville. It is barely a wide place in the road, south of Missoula. I doubt the local cops get many calls.

Montana Law Enforcement officers are very used to seeing people walking around carrying guns, even in town. The day I bought my M-1A, I carried it out of the store and walked down the street in Helena towards my car. A Helena Police Department cruiser drove by and slammed on the brakes and two officers jumped out. They walked towards me and said, “Dude! Nice piece! Can we see it?” They drooled over it for a couple of minutes, then gave it back, thanked me and drove away.

He couldn’t believe it? Hasn’t been paying attention to the last 20 years. But I guess most people don’t until it happens to them.

“Ravalli County Sheriff Chris Hoffman said the officers responded appropriately considering the information they had received.”

And how would we know that? So far no substantial info has been released and we’re just supposed to believe officer Hoffman? I don’t think so....

The entire thing stinks of over reaction based on a libtard or 2 calling in false reports. If I were Brook Id press for prosecution of those folks. Would also see if the local police might get better investigative training while I was at it.

It was neither Brook’s fault nor that of the police officers - it was squarely the fault of the a-holes who made misleading phone calls to 911. They should be prosecuted and made to pay all related expenses for this fiasco.

I live in a development of 1-5 acres parcels well out of the city. In Nevada open carry is legal. I usually get home about 4:00 pm, get out of my SUV and put my carry weapon of the day in my back pocket and walk to the mailbox to get the mail. Often I am passed by the school bus. My street is the last one it goes on and there are three streets left in the area that the kids walk or ride with someone to the bus. Last Fall I was at the mailbox and a new wanta be SUV was picking kids up from the stop about 200 feet away. I had never seen this vehicle in the area so I noted the plate and of course they were Kalifornia. The “van” drove by me and I could see a woman whose face went to sheer horror when she went by me. She drove up to the top of the hill and started gesturing and looked like she was on the phone. I went about my business in my front yard puttering around. About 10 minutes later a Deputy Sheriff who I am familiar with pulls up and gets out of his crusier. He smiles and waves to me and says “oh I thought it was you.” About that time this woman comes tearing down the hill stops and gets out and start shouting that the Deputy needs to arrest me etc. Complete irrational babbble. The Deputy tried to explains to her that in Nevada I could walk around all day with a gun out and it was legal. The woman went crazy. The Deputy called his Supervisor who arrived and tried to reason with the woman. She went completely ape. So the Supervisor hooked her up and put her in the back of the first cruiser. Now at this point I am laughing my a$$ off and having a great time. So the “van” is full of three kids and they are all crying now. The Supervisor puts in a call to CPS to come and get the kids and calls a tow truck to haul the “van”. About that time here comes another SUV wanta be with Kalifornia plates and it is the husband. He jumps out and starts screaming at the Supervisor about what have they done to his wife etc. So he gets hooked up and thrown in the Supervisors car. After about 5 minutes the husband calms down and talks his way out of the cuffs. He tries to get his wife released and the Super says no. She actually pushed the Supervisor at one point and he is sticking to her going to the jail. Long, short my Realtor told me they moved back to Kalifornia after taking a $30,000 beating on their house they had owned for three months. Couldn't take the “wild West”. Made me smile

Sounds almost like a case of “Swatting,” where jerks call in panicked 911 calls about some “man with a gun” or false hostage situation. They use prepaid phones that are hard to trace, and are amused by the SWAT response.

Not so amusing for the innocent victims of this “prank.”

Although the perp in this case is the probable lib anti-gunner who made the false call in the first place, the PD shares some blame in not vigorously investigating and prosecuting the false report. The police owe it to the community they serve, they owe it to the citizens and they owe it to themselves. If they keep charging onto honest citizens property with weapons drawn, something bad is going to happen sooner or later.

Time for Mr Blakely to file suit for punitive damages AND the copies of the police report, transcripts from the 911 call, names of the callers and other information that he requested previously.

False reports can get people killed

Unbelievable. Clearly something is wrong with this "shoot first ask questions later" police policy!

(Just another mini-Waco.)

"According to Blakeley, it took about 10 minutes for the officers to realize they had made a mistake. They released him."

Too late.

Had this happened to me, just as related?
The LEOs hierarchy and government directly above would be given 2 choices:
1) GIVE me the name or names of the complainants
-or-
2) A massive lawsuit for violating any number of my rights forthcoming immediately, all the way to the federal level if need be.
Period.

BTW mark, perhaps you could list the state this happened. I've no idea where this place is located.

Sound like transplants. What is his point of shooting starling birds and killing them with his pellet gun? He wasn’t going to eat the starlings he just wanted to kill them? What an idiot the guy is.

The guy is lucky he wasn’t shot 15 times(out of 162,799 shots fired).
