Three UK explorers surveying the Arctic ice were down to rations of just 90g of food each per day until a resupply flight reached them on Tuesday.
Bad weather had frustrated repeated attempts to land new food stocks at the ice camp set up by Pen Hadow, Ann Daniels and Martin Hartley.
The explorers, from the Catlin Arctic Survey, usually consume enough food to give them about 6,000 calories per day.
The cut in rations took them down to just 1,000 calories each.
In the last few days before the flight landed, the team had gone without any hot food and were described as "hungry, lethargic, and excruciatingly bored".
At one point, cameraman Martin Hartley said he was surviving on the equivalent of three Mars bars - even less in the last few days - and listed his rations:
"Today I've had a cup of porridge, three pork scratchings, a piece of dried coconut and a finger of shortbread. I've got 12 raisins left in my bag and nine pieces of pineapple, each the size of a little finger."

If they end up eating each other, they could always call it--- the "Gore Expedition"...
Who’s got the World’s Smallest Violin? It’s needed here.
Let Algore rescue them...
Am I missing something? Is it a bad thing to go to the North Pole and conduct measurements? I found the comments so far puzzling. Are these guys doing something bad? I looked at the BBC site and looked at what they were doing- measuring ice to supplement satellite measurements. Can’t see this as good or bad.
90g of food a day in an extreme cold weather climate is not very much. Wouldn’t like to try to get by for too long on that much food in such an environment.
ROTFLMAO!!
Over the years from threads like this, I have learned that not all freepers are exactly the manly type, they seem to think that adventures and danger are a sign of stupidity.
Needless to say that wasn’t your quote that got pasted there but you can see my answer.
2. I thought Darwin was our enemy here? At least that's the impression I get from the Flat-Earthers on this site.
(that's a little thing called "sarcasm" for all the rock-stupid fans of the science demonization threads)
If you're interested, there's much more here.
I read the initial article strictly from the point of view of an avid camper/hiker. I did a hiking trip on Iceland once and I remember spending weeks and weeks planning out my menu/rations- weight vs caloric value.
Given the weight of my ruck, trudging through snow and trying to stay warm it proved impossible to actually eat enough. I had decided on 3000 calories a day. I lost about 8 lbs in a week. I don’t think I could have gone another two weeks like that because I would have quickly burned up my fat reserves after one more week. It was a really cool trip. I knew I was coming back after a week though.
Might have had to eat the wife if I had got stuck for longer ;-)
Doesn’t flying in supplies add to Global Warming?? Posers!
Pray for America
Irony, as they freeze thier asses off due to ‘unseasonably cold and snowy weather.
And not that I would take thier ‘activist’ word on anything to start with in the whole shams on things.
Here you go....
Or the expedition could wait until global warming kicks in and makes a new try in a few years. It wouldn't be so cold then and the supply plane could make deliveries on time.
