Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush said Saturday that it's time for the Republican Party to give up its "nostalgia" for the heyday of the Reagan era and look forward, even if it means stealing the winning strategy deployed by Democrats in the 2008 election.
"You can't beat something with nothing, and the other side has something. I don't like it, but they have it, and we have to be respectful and mindful of that," Mr. Bush said.
The former president's brother, often mentioned as a potential candidate in 2012, said President Obama's message of hope and change during the 2008 campaign clearly resonated with Americans.
"So our ideas need to be forward looking and relevant. I felt like there was a lot of nostalgia and the good old days in the [Republican] messaging. I mean, it's great, but it doesn't draw people toward your cause," Mr. Bush said.

Time to leave the Bush's behind.
Sorry Jeb, I liked you as our governor but you’re wrong. It’s not “nostalgia”, it’s principle and values. We don’t change these to win votes.
We should take Jesse Jackson’s advice and stay of of the Bushes.
Thanks, but No Thanks!!
The Illinois GOP have left Reagan a LONG TIME AGO!!
Illinois VETERANS are SILENCED! BY ILLINOIS GOP!

Damn these RINO’s. We must rid ourselves of this cancer.
As they say in engineering, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it."
Sincerely,

No, I think it’s time we leave Jeb behind.
Reaganism isn’t based on nostalgia, it’s based on the principle foundations of conservatism.
Maybe they should learn that first, and then open their cheese holes.
Sorry Jeb, we have tried ‘middle of the road’ and it doesn’t work for us. Look at the last election cycle.
I enjoyed watching Sarah Palin energize the troops with her conservative values. I was amazed at the turnout for the Tax Day Tea Party. Don’t tell me conservatism is dead.
Yes, it is high time for Jeb’s political R.I.P.
>> “You can’t beat something with nothing, and the other side has something. I don’t like it, but they have it, and we have to be respectful and mindful of that,”
The “something” the ‘RATS had in ‘08 was:
a) A GOP that squandered its credibility in its 8 years of waxing and then waning power
b) A consistent message (the WRONG message, but consistent)
c) An articulate, well organized machine that “sold” the message (with lies, but nevertheless they worked at selling the message)
d) A weak, pandering idiot of a POTUS candidate that was ASHAMED of his message and ASHAMED of his platform and DID NOT WANT TO WIN.
What the people of the US need, Jebbie boy, is NOT to “forget Reagan” but to EMULATE Reagan. Reagan always know what he stood for — he unflinchingly SOLD his message — he DID NOT squander his power — he WANTED TO WIN.
CONSERVATISM SELLS! Too bad the GOP is too stupid and corrupt and self serving and in favor of big government to figure that out and win with it anymore.
Screw you Jeb Bush. Yet another sellout to big liberal government.
JEB has come out of the RINO closet.
To be fair to Juan, middle of the road politics was only part of the reason for an underwhelming turnout. Another important part was that he didn’t fight a meaningful fight. Chance after chance to strip Obama’s flim flams bare were simply wasted.
We should take Jesse Jacksons advice and stay of of the Bushes.
^^
Actually, he said, “Stay out da Bushes!” (But I agree with your sentiment.)
Its not nostalgia, its principle and values. We dont change these to win votes.
^^^
You framed my thoughts perfectly.
Yeah Jeb, it worked so well in 2006 and 2008...
RINOs are addicted to using the US Treasury to reward donors and pay for pet projects.
The Constitution is so antiquated in the brave new world of multinational corporations and NAFTA, CAFTA, WTO, etc.
Damn these RINOs. We must rid ourselves of this cancer.

Or join another party....
I have, the Conservative Party, did it right after this last election.
