WASHINGTON Marian Robinson, President Obamas mother-in-law, moved into the White House kicking and screaming, said her son, Craig Robinson. She had never lived outside of Chicago and was reluctant to leave her beloved bungalow, her friends and family, her weekly yoga class and her familiar routines.

Yes, life is good when you can live the Life of Riley on taxpayer expense. The rest of us schlubs have to work for a living to pay for the queen.
Why are there so many puff pieces about the Obama family? The Bush family never got positive coverage. We mostly heard his daughters were drinking when they were underage.
The White House is the Penthouse of Public Housing.
Kicking and screaming - didn’t want to live in a ‘white house’?
We must get even if nothing else (of course, of course).
I still think the old lady is going to skedaddle back to Chicago when she finds out what it's like outside in a DC summer ~ even in a year when the Runaway Greenhouse Effect has run away!
It must be a slow news day at the NYT.
I guess no one is buying the Swine Flu media hype anymore so they had to dig down deep in the barrel.
I’m surprised I haven’t heard this report on the Chicago local news....it’s the kind of thing they have been reporting as “news” for months...
Politics aside, I like the idea of a “first grandma”. Maybe she can be like Polly Bergen in “Commander-in-Chief”?
Hey Chopper!!
‘Well we’re movin’ on up....’
So, why'd she move??? Good grief. The call of the freebie life compliments of the U.S. citizens who pay taxes is just too much to resist apparently.
sheeeeeee! where’s my pie?
I’m glad she’s living with the Obamas in the White House. It’s good for the girls to have someone familiar with them, since their parents will be absent so much. I don’t begrudge her living there.
Good Lord, talk about mean spirited.
Are not conservatives pro family values, having a grandmother around is a good thing. She worked, she is 71, she lives with her daughter. Usually that is grounds for “good job well done, nice to have a daughter who wants her mother”.
But no,,the mean spirited comments on this thread are just that and offensive and full of petty resentment.
Anyone that thought that needed their head examined.
Who the hell would want to give up living in a 6-star worthy home? No one.
I wonder how much it costs the American tax payers to support mother-in-law's stay/management. Every time she heads out beyond 1600 Penn's gates it probably costs us tax payers $10,000+.
She seems like a very nice lady and a devoted mother and grandma. I’m glad she’s in the White House. If it weren’t her, the White House would be hiring a governess/nanny for the girls. It’s much better for Grandma to be taking care of them than some hired staffer.
I actually think this is a sweet article. The kids are lucky to have her in D.C. with them.
