On April 27, The New York Times reported that the percentage of black Americans who believe race relations in America are generally good has doubled since July. This statistic forces me to ask: Why are African-Americans feeling so good about our country in a time of economic crisis and international conflict?
It is not just the fact of a black president. Instead, with everyone analyzing the 100-day mark of Barack Obama's administration, I think the answer lies in understanding this historic moment through a black cultural lens. I believe African-Americans are feeling racially optimistic because they respect how our first brother president is handling his business. Not all black people, of course; there is a group clamoring for accountability. But the polls are clear that most black people remain enthusiastic supporters of this president.
In January, Obama kicked things off with the ultimate political party. African-Americans stood with numb fingers and toes on the National Mall to watch a day we never thought would come. Obama had Mary J. Blige singing on the weekend, Aretha in her Sunday-going-to-meeting-hat celebrating on Tuesday morning, and Beyonce serenading on Tuesday night. It was an unrivaled R&B trifecta, challenging even the Essence festival.
But the best part of Jan. 20 was that Barack and Michelle got out of the bulletproof, black Cadillac and walked the streets . . . and no one shot at them. I know we are not allowed to say it, but one reason black people believe that race relations have improved in America is because Barack Obama lived through the primaries, the election, the inauguration and now through 100 days.

BTW-If Rush or Ann Coulter used the term ‘folks’ in the same sentence they referred to blacks, there would be blood in the streets.
I’ll support you in that.
I’ll take Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.
And the word "Diversity" itself forces racism to the front of the priority line every time it is uttered.
“I think I’m going to be African-American on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, and Caucasian on Tuesdays and Thursdays; maybe Hispanic on the weekends.... “
...it will be a great benefit to you if you squeeze in a day of being a Muslim.
“It is not just the fact of a black president.”
Boy, 13% goes a long way, I guess!
B.O. -— 50% White, 37% Arab, 13% Black...HUM!
It’s like Queers -— They’re 2% of the population, but want us to think they’re 98%!
B.S. !!!!!!!!!!!!
Black people are wearing rose colored glasses. I think it should be obvious that Obama is setting race relations back one hundred years. The fact that white people don’t go around preaching hatred for black people does not alter the fact that black leaders DO go around preaching hatred for white people.
White people are now the oppressed but there is a huge effort to pretend that we are still in the fifties when it was the other way around. At the current rate we will soon see public drinking fountains with “no whites” signs over them.
I am flameproof so anyone who wants to turn on me can feel welcome.
Black racists and White “guilters” voted him in. He won. We all lost.
Nothing like a little street lingo to bolster the intellectual credibility of a writer.
Imagine if a white author eluded to the point about the first black president taking money that he didn’t earn in the 100 days? Using words like “mugging” the American people, etc.? This article is not any different.
40 acres, a mule, and a couple of white slaves. All done indirectly, of course, through quotas, preferences, and transfer payments.
Oh those bad white people shooting poor black people.
It’s the blacks that are commiting the violent crime against the white people. Black/White interracial crime is 9-1 committed by blacks.
Blacks need to find a moral compass. I don’t believe most have one (abortion and most other moral issues) because they have no problems voting for a man like obama. They certainly won’t find a moral compass with people like hussein obama or rev. Wright.
The honorable Pastor James David Manning would say, “Melissa gotta white momma.”
The arch-typical Black political hero must not be Nat Turner, John Brown, William Lloyd Garrison, Harriet Tubman, Frederick Douglass, Marcus Garvey, Martin Luther King, or Malcolm X but Hubert Henry Harrison.
I often use "folks," "boy" etc. in conversations or to address other people. However, I have to be careful how I use these terms because I'm white. Apparently because I'm white, I'm racist by default.
Remember the uproar some time back when a poor fellow used the word "niggardly" in a public statement?
“Remember the uproar some time back when a poor fellow used the word “niggardly” in a public statement?”
I do. And as I recall, he was a black man who used the word absolutely correctly, according to the dictionary. This kind of race-baiting hysteria only results in turning the whole thing into a farce.
They have opened my eyes and NOW I see the Democrats for the hateful racists they are.
There, I am told, an old saying that “There would be a black president when pigs flew”.
Well, on Obama’s 100th day - “Swine Flu”!
“
They loved the 1st 100 days because their Prez-ee-dent is a black man. Thats it. Marion Barry is black and could do no wrong. Chocolate City dipsh%% in New Orleans is black and can do no wrong.
Blacks have been trained by dems since the Great Society that rich white men are the devil and out to use them. A lack of education of any sort, thanks to public schools, solidifies that.

Well, while I understand they are busy being black racists, they might want to take a breath and try understanding through an American Cultural lens. Then they might, MAYBE, just might have some thin inkling as to what an utter disaster their support and voting for a black communist "anonymous" presidential candidate really is.
However, I do not believe that will ever happen. Racism appears to be ingrained in the liberal. They can not stop fixating on it.
Okay, okay, I get it. They love that a black guy got elected. But at some point, even for them, that novelty is going to have to wear off and they have to come to the realization that, man, this guy is a fool.
