An air-supported canopy over the Dallas Cowboys' practice field collapsed during a heavy thunderstorm Saturday afternoon, leaving one person critically injured and six others hurt, firefighters said. As many as 80 people may have been inside the facility when it was blown down shortly before 3:30 p.m. (4:30 p.m. ET), said Mike Adams, a dispatcher for the Irving, Texas, fire department. Rescuers were continuing to comb through the wreckage beneath the fallen canopy, but, "Everyone as far as we know is accounted for," Adams said.

Is “air-supported canopy” like “canopy not supported at all”?

Is air-supported canopy like canopy not supported at all? Sounds like the Minneapolis Metrodome - a giant Moon Bounce. It was always entertaining to watch the little elf people fight the wind going in or out. I know it's a sickness.

Tennis bubble. There was (is) a church over in Smiths Station, Alabama that had one. We got a particularly nasty round of storms come though a few weeks ago, and now it looks the Hindenburg did on May 7th.

No, it's really supported by air (pressure). The canopies weigh a lot more than folks suspect, hence the injuries today.

I've been inside a couple - not recently, but in the last fifteen years, so I'll assume they're still the same - and they also use positive air pressure inside to help keep them rigid. There's an airtight revolving door you go through to enter and exit. You can really tell the difference between the inside and outside air pressure if you have stuffy ears and/or sinuses.
