WASHINGTON - The new swine flu is rattling Americans from coast to coast and President Barack Obama pledged "to do whatever it takes" to battle an emergency that world health authorities warned is inching closer to a full-fledged pandemic.
"This is obviously a very serious situation, and every American should know that their entire government is taking the utmost precautions and preparations," Obama declared, just hours after the World Health Organization pointed to spreading U.S. infections as it ramped up its grim warnings.
But with nearly 100 confirmed cases in 11 states and many more suspected, Obama also stressed that average people have some power to fend off this new flu just like they can guard against the garden-variety kind. "It sounds trivial but it makes a huge difference," Obama said at a news conference Wednesday night on his 100th day in office. He repeatedly urged people to wash their hands, cover their coughs and stay home rather than spread germs when they're feeling sick.

This “pandemic” is going to turn out to be one of the most over-rated panics in history.
Oh No!! Our esteemed president, in his infinite wisdom, has put the kybosh on that sensible idea: ... Obama resisted calls to close the U.S. border as "akin to closing the barn door after the horses are out."
Which is fairly ironic considering that when those of us were saying "close the border" five days ago, he said it was unnecessary.
I heard on the radio we may have our first confirmed case here in GA. Man in LaGrange has something that the state could not identify and now the CDC is working the case.

Unfortunately “Close the borders” to the socialists means shut down international commerce. When whats meant is control our Mexican border the source of the illness. And the cry should be,
Mr. President we don’t need any more stinking sick horses comming in from Mexico lets fix the corral fence and gates.
Currently, they only have enough stockpile to treat 5% of the Worlds population. It wasn't cost effective for their company to produce more of the drug.
It will distributed on a first come first served basis all over the globe.
We have only enough Tamiflu in our stockpile to treat 20% of the US population.

Based on current stocks, Roche could start packaging existing capsules and production of new capsules from existing API within weeks. However, it will take 6 to 9 months before additional supply from the enhanced manufacturing process is available.
So we can see that the WHO HAD to declare a Pandemic level for them to step up production.

Use of the comments ...closing the border will no longer prevent the spread of the disease....is just an excuse for leaving the border open. How about the argument that when Mexican’s start storming our border for free, effective medical care, we won’t be prepared to stop them.
The OPEN BORDERS/ECONOBOTS will first see us all dead before they’ll shut down the borders.
