Mexico to shut down government in flu fight Decision comes as the World Health Organization warns of pandemic

MEXICO CITY - Mexico's government is suspending all nonessential activity of the federal government and private business as the number of confirmed swine flu cases jumped.

The decision came as global health authorities warned Wednesday that swine flu was threatening to bloom into a pandemic, and the virus spread farther in Europe even as the outbreak appeared to stabilize at its epicenter. A toddler who succumbed in Texas became the first death outside Mexico.

Health Secretary José Angel Córdova Villalobos announced the move to shut down most of the country’s government and economy shortly after his department reported that confirmed cases of infection with the new strain of influenza had risen. The death toll in Mexico is believed to be 160.

In addition to the deaths, the virus is believed to have sickened 2,498 people across Mexico. But only 1,311 suspected swine flu patients remained hospitalized, and a closer look at daily admissions and deaths at Mexico’s public hospitals suggests the outbreak may have peaked during three grim days last week when thousands of people complained of flu symptoms.

the public information on # of cases of suspected infection, not to mention death, is inconsistent with the level of national hysteria, whether it is mexico or the US.

I do wonder what I am missing here.

You know this is serious when members of the drug cartels are wearing surgical masks to the gunfights.

You could be missing the fact that team Obama is, right at this moment, getting ready to start pushing their "health care" plan through Congress. They need a good crisis.

‘follow the money’ is a basic premise of how I analyze world events/politics (and human behavior in general in most cases), but the health care plan does not as of yet seem to be directly benefiting much. This item occurred to me a few days ago, but I don’t see the two being tied yet.

The virus is just so convenient - right after a stealth coup in the US, with a major financial issue having already opened up the US treasury to full-loot mode.

Obviously WHO might just want to see some additional funding down the road (WHO directors have expenses and goals too), but the way the US media has behaved on this issue makes me very suspicious.

I just saw on Drudge that Biden said he would avoid trains and planes. How reckless is that? If we shouldn’t be riding in planes and subways, they damn sure better issue the proper warnings.

52% of those known infected are still hospitalized?

Perfect time for a government takeover, I was expecting Cuba was going to have a coup a couple of weeks ago, maybe Mexico will fall.

All it takes is enough healthy soldiers to occupy the government positions of power, the people won’t leave their homes because of flu fears.
