"Some in the Republican Party are happy about this. I am not," he said in a statement. "Let's be honest-Senator Specter didn't leave the GOP based on principles of any kind. He left to further his personal political interests because he knew that he was going to lose a Republican primary due to his left-wing voting record. "Republicans look forward to beating Sen. Specter in 2010, assuming the Democrats don't do it first."

He left to further his personal political interests because he knew that he was going to lose a Republican primary due to his left-wing voting record.Oh, so NOW the GOP thinks he's a loser? 'Cause last week Coryn was behind him all the way. Take what we can get from each state, etc. When you stand for nothing, you'll fall for anything. The GOP is so spineless it makes me sick.

I dont know why hes gloating.
@@@@
It is in the mandate of the RNC to defend and support incumbents, no matter how liberal or squishy they are. Michael Steele will be much happier to support Toomey than Spectre. [preferred spelling]

Steel’s right this time. And Specter’s not guaranteed a win next election day, either.

Spector left cause he knew he would lose..he knew he was done as far as the GOP is concerned..he is a disgrace..when I found out this morning that he switched parties, I screamed out in joy. Now we can get a TRUE Conservative in the Senate. Don’t let the door hit ya on the ass on the way out Arlen
To: americanophile
I’m sure brain-dead Arlen would not be doing this without consulting with and getting assurances from the Democrat Party that noone would run against him in the Democrat primary.

Perhaps I’ve missed something, but Specter’s statement said that he’d run as a democrat in 2010, and not that he’s switching parties right now.

We need to take over the Party. Everything Obambni wants , hes going to get in the next 2 years. Eff Steele and those PC weenies.
First line on the agenda: defeat McCain in the Primary.
To: maica
You are correct, and that is the major problem with the GOP campaign orghanizations...Party cash should NOT be expended in primary campaigns...an incumbnet, if he has traction with his electorate, shoudl have NO problem raising cash for a primary..indeed..he/she probably won’t face a challenger if he votes correctly..

I agree with Steele on this one.
But I am happy to see Specter on the other side. Let them deal with this back-stabbing, self-promoting weasel.

Looks to me like the United States is swiftly heading for a totalitarian government. No opposition? No check or balances. Sad and dangerous situation. I can’t even imagine the further damage that this administration can cause even BEFORE the election in 2010. I guess next it will be Collins and Snowe. It’s good to get rid of them but right now the timing is bad. CO
