NEW YORK (AP) It was supposed to be a photo op that captured images of an Air Force One plane with a majestic Statue of Liberty in the background. Instead, it turned into a public relations nightmare that led to recriminations from the president and mayor and prompted thousands other to ask, "What were they thinking?"
Just before the workday began on Monday, an airliner and supersonic fighter jet zoomed past the lower Manhattan skyline. Within minutes, startled financial workers streamed out of their offices, fearing a nightmarish replay of Sept. 11....
An Air Force combat photographer took pictures from one of the fighter jets, administration officials said.
The photo op was combined with a training exercise to save money, according to another administration official who also spoke on condition of anonymity because she was not authorized to speak publicly about the behind-the-scenes discussions about the flight....
It had a classified footnote that said, "Information in this document shall not be released to the public or the media."

Now, now....it’s not nice to bait FReepers.
WE need a truth commission run by Pat Leahy and House
hearings run by “Turkey Conyers”.What’s that? Bush isn’t
president. Never mind!
I guess I do not clearly understand your meaning. But please remember lots of people view this website everyday. We do not want to see comments that make Feee Republic appear to be a home to bigotry.
Let me guess. JPMorganChase and/or Goldman Sachs.
My thoughts precisely---a lot of top-level people would have had to signoff on it.
Caldera might have forged official documents, he might have duped other officials, in order to get clearance to pulloff the stunt.
Might be something a Third World marauder like Caldera would do---to showoff---to show he has power over the federal government.
Please. There would be absolutely no reason for Caldera to do this in the first place, he does not have the power, and he was approving somebody else’s request. He may be a dumb apparatchik, like everybody Bambi has appointed, but being Hispanic does not make Caldera a “Third World marauder.”
You post interesting things, until your posts are destroyed by an insane dislike of Hispanics, and I really don’t think that’s appropriate for this site.
Okay, can we just see the darn pictures? Oh, I see. You left the cap on the lens. Oh. So, there isn’t even a single picture? And you won’t do it again? So, can we talk to the pilot of Scareforce One? Oh, where is he being detained? Oh, no more questions? I understand.
The planes flew over the Verrazano Bridge, buzzed Lady Liberty's left ear, continued up the Hudson past Jersey City and then circled back toward Staten Island, federal officials said. The jets then completed two more loops as photographers aboard the F-16 took the world's most expensive snapshots.Photographers (plural) aboard the F-16 took pictures? Um, how many people can sit in an F-16?
Is that other fellow ol’ Reggie “Teabag” Love, himself?
Hey, if I were you I’d take the opportunity to say, “Hey, it was early and I wasn’t thinking clearly.” Otherwise, take your lumps.
1/ Who REQUESTED (not approved) the mission?
2/ Did Obama know about it in advance?
3/ Who was ON the jet besides the USAF crew? Was this a payola junket?
This whole thing stinks to high heaven. I can remember a low fly-by of military aircraft along the Hudson River a couple of years ago during Fleet Week in New York City. Every news outlet within 250 miles of Manhattan carried advance stories in the days leading up to it describing what was going to happen -- specifically to avoid any chance of chaos/panic that could have resulted among New Yorkers after 9/11.
This country is a nation of idiot voters.
Then what as it?
Brilliant deduction.(/s)
