More than 1,400 purity balls, where young girls pledge their virginity to their fathers at a promlike event, were held in 2006 (the balls are federally funded). Facebook is peppered with purity groups that exist to support girls trying to save it. Schools hold abstinence rallies and assemblies featuring hip-hop dancers and comedians alongside religious leaders. Virginity and chastity are reemerging as a trend in pop culture, in our schools, in the media, and even in legislation. So while young women are subject to overt sexual messages every day, theyre simultaneously being taught by the people who are supposed to care for their personal and moral development, no less that their only real worth is their virginity and ability to remain pure.
So what are young women left with? Abstinence-only education during the day and Girls Gone Wild commercials at night! Whether its delivered through a virginity pledge or by a barely dressed tween pop singer writhing across the television screen, the message is the same: A womans worth lies in her ability or her refusal to be sexual. And were teaching American girls that, one way or another, their bodies and their sexuality are what make them valuable. The sexual double standard is alive and well, and its irrevocably damaging young women.

Only one word fits this article...........CRAP!!!
I'd say: There is no shame in todays culture. [Not quite true, but far too few parents teach kids the significance of shame.]
I do think it would help if they also encouraged boys to remain chaste until marriage.
LOL! Exactly right.
LMAO
It is from MSNBC...
Balls
“So where are the balls with boys pledging their mothers to keep their pants zipped?”
I think young men need examples and instructions from their dad in this regard. They don’t respond to “ballroom” fantasy nights very much.
Give a girl a chance to dress up and go to a dance and you’ve got her attention!
Just my theory, it’s the dads that make the difference for the teen girls AND the teen boys. So hang in there dads.
Super Bowl tickets for chastity?
With my son when he began to date, I old him that he must treat every girl he dates the way he would expect boys would treat his little sister.
That worked well and when he was in his senior year of high school and had been dating a girl for almost a year, he confessed to me that both wanted to have sex and he was not sure he could meet the expectations I had encouraged.
At that point the lesson became, use protection, use protection, use protection even if she says she is on the pill.
How about asking him if he plans on marrying the girl? If he doesn’t, then why is he wasting both of their time?
I smell a class-action suit against olive oil makers if this is true! ;-P
Seriously, this biatch’s opinion means the word no longer has meaning? What a twit!
IMO, she’s just trying to sell books and get on TV.
I will leave it to my son to decide who he is most sexually compatible with and who he wishes to spend the rest of his life.
And at 19 and in college, being married is the last thing that he needs.
Wow, something like that would kind undermine this chick's complaint.
Hmmm...I wonder if there are any examples of boys making a public pedge or demonstration of sexual purity....golly I guess there aren't any.
Except maybe for these guys:
You may think they suck as a musical group but they wear purity rings. Or are they...gasp...Hypocrites?
Many young men take purity pledges and wear rings to symbolize their pledge. The author not surprisingly ignores this
And you have no problem with other guys treating his little sister the same way?
