Two states have legalized same-sex marriage in the past two weeks, but when it comes to public opinion, supporters of gay marriage are still a minority. That minority is on an upward trajectory though and Scott Barclay, political scientist at the State University of New York at Albany, explains why: newspapers.
In the last two weeks, two states have legalized same-sex marriage. First, the Iowa Supreme Court ruled that a law banning same-sex marriage was unconstitutional. Then Vermont became the first state to legalize same-sex marriage through its legislature.
When it comes to public opinion, supporters of gay marriage are still a minority, but they're a growing minority. A recent CBS poll showed that 33 percent of Americans support same-sex marriage today, up from 22 percent in 2004.
Scott Barclay, a political scientist at New Yorks University at Albany, along with his colleagues, has been tracking that gradual shift in public opinion, going back to 1990, and found a major contributing factor for the growing public acceptance is newspapers.

I about fell through the floor when I heard this, and of all places it was on NPR.
Most liberal media outlets are very unwilling to admit to their own biases, but if a liberal college admits it; given that colleges have the same mindset as the media they have the capability to speak on their behalf.
Who would've seen an admission of media liberalism coming from a college?

Naturally. It was after all NPR.
But you know how it goes, you have to listen to the other side every now and then to get a feel for what talking points are being pushed out.
This is one of those rare gems that’s post worthy.

Indeed. Those numbers are fixed by activists in the MSM who can then point to them and brag about all the "gay" marriage supporters that supposedly exist in this country, in direct opposition to common sense and experience. In 20th-century Communist China and Russia the classes in power had the media print outright lies and distortions. There were people who even seemed to believe it unquestioningly, and then there were those who knew it was a lie and yet knew they'd be attacked if they raised questions. ...Is this starting to sound familiar?

Damn right. I hope that everyone of these idiots have kids that turn out to be hard core militant gays. And push this crap in their collective faces. Kinda changes the landscape when it is personal.

Our local newspaper did a series of sypathetic full-page stories on gay marriage a few years ago when it was in the news. I called the paper to complain. The woman I talked to said that she had gotten many angry calls. I really felt betrayed by this newspaper since I had been reading it since I was a kid.

That’s just how it goes. Liberal media and liberal journalists support the gay agenda.
What we need to do is get the word out so that other conservatives who may still be reading newspapers start putting the paper down.

Do you regularly read newspapers?
This study is pretty accurate. Gays get regular puff piece reporting, and have for a long time.
