"This is NOT partisan politics on the part of bishops or their flock," he said. "This is zeal for life, pure and powerful. This is care for truth, and attention to the salvation of souls. It cannot and must not be neglected, even if it means we might get scolded at times by those who want us to speak less.' Amen!

We are at WAR? No kidding. And we have been since before 1973.
Glad the Bishop is talking about it though. It appears as though more of them are and that's a good thing.

Yes it is! I just love him. He did the Divine Mercy Mass at our church Sunday but we couldn’t go in the afternoon. He’s been wonderful and I’m so grateful for him! KC really needs him!

Better late than never.
Bishop Finn reminds us all that satan is always looking to destroy all of us ... including bishops.

I'm a Protestant. I've never been a Catholic. Often I don't agree with some of the things Catholics do, as I am sure Catholics don't often agree with what Protestants do. That said, I think we (Catholics and Protestants) need to reconcile our differences and work together on issues that affect the faith. Too often many are quick to say Catholics are condemned because of xyz and Protestants are condemned by zyx.
But, that is not for man to decide; it is for the Lord. We are only saved by faith and faith alone. The point of all of this, is as a Christian, as a Protestant, I am proud and happy to hear this (statement) from the Bishop.
I think that more and more these statements, these testamonies need to be made. I think that Protestant and Catholic leaders need to be that... LEADERS. They need to work together and speak together that our faith binds us. That these issues affect all of us spiritually, and that we are all of the same flock, we just have different caregivers that help us follow the Big SHEPARD. United in our faith, and strong in our faith we will overcome. Divided, it is easier for evil to overcome us.
The division amongst Catholics and Protestants, is no more than the work of the devil. I believe that the Word speaks to us in different ways that God knows it will reach us. To some, it may be a calling to become (or continue) Greek Orthodox, Roman Catholic, Baptist, Methodist, Presbytarian etc etc etc. The real pity is those that are lead by evil to false prophets (islam) and idols (buddha).
Anyhow, I hope that more Christian leaders speak out against the evils of abortion and the homosexual agenda (and hold to it unlike Warren).

Thank you for the excellent post, I have pinged a few other FReepers (both Catholic and Protestant who I know feel the same).
I am certain that the day is fast approaching when devout Christians (Catholic, Protestant and Orthodox) will be severely persecuted for our adherence to the Lord's Word. We will be tested for our faith in ways that have not been seen since Nero, so while it is certainly important to realize our differences, it is far more important to recognize how very much we agree upon.

Yes, many lost their way in the decade between Mario Cuomo's "I'm personally opposed, but ..." speech in 1984 and John Paul II's "Gospel of Life" encyclical in 1995. But the Bishops aren't puppet masters pulling strings to solve problems instantly. Nonetheless, a massive shift is occuring, brilliantly summarized by Monsignor Philip J.Reilly in this
PDF.

Yes, many lost their way in the decade between Mario Cuomo's "I'm personally opposed, but ..." speech in 1984 What some people fail to realize, is that the notion of being "personally opposed" is totally unacceptable when it comes to moral issues of right and wrong.
Nobody in their right mind would dream of saying, "I'm personally opposed to [murder, rape, arson, armed robbery, etc.], but wouldnt want to impose my views on others." Yet that is EXACTLY what the pro-abortionists are saying.
