Meghan McCain, whose father apparently ran for some political office at one time, certainly knows how to attract attention. Unfortunately, at least among doctrinaire Republicans, its generally of the wrong sort.
Her most recent outing was a speech delivered to the Log Cabin Republicans 2009 convention. In an occasionally rambling but hopeful address, Ms. McCain drew fire from the punditry for daring to give voice to an ugly truth which many party loyalists would rather not contemplate: if the ideological purists of the GOP particularly the social conservatives wish to thin the herd by driving all the RINOs from their midst, they are dooming the Republicans to a future as a regional party with little hope for electoral success on a national level.
She may be young and lacking a deep well of life experience from which to draw, but kids still do say the darnedest things.
This young lady bravely speaks to a younger generation of conservatives....

You forgot the [Barf Alert] tag in the title
“Or, the RINOs could thin the herd by driving all the social conservatives from their midst.”
What’s the point? Why not just vote Democrat, like I believe Meghan did for Kerry and Gore?
Road to Surfdom
LOL. Reminds me of someone who wrote a paper called “Serfs Up!” for a Russian history class. It annoyed me then, but I look back at it in good humor.
She reminds me of Cindy Sheehan the idiot..Liberals get finished with her she will be tossed under the bus and her daddy will be out of a job.....
Let me guess....Jazz Shaw must be GAY....or have a GAY SISTER or BROTHER!!
Better get a bigger bucket. I feel like I just drank a case of Syrup of Ipecac.
and just like Cindy, she will be covered with 10-foot pole marks...
Finally.
A[nother] Wisconsinite who calls it as it is.
Since moving back to WI, I was really beginning to wonder. ;^)
What's bothersome, however, is the tacit assumption by the folks on this thread that the current state of conservatism is all hunky-dory.
One need not agree with Ms. McCain's positions, to agree with her on the fact that conservatism in particular, and the Republican Party in general, are in real trouble.
It's easy to insult her ... it's clearly much more difficult to face like adults the underlying truth of what she says.
You too, huh.
What's really needed now, is a bucket brigade.
Well in any event, get in line my friend.
You're #26. ;^)
LOL! Talk about cognitive dissonance on display!
I just hope you didn’t move back to Madtown!! lol
Jazz Shaw?! LOL
Meghan McCain is just following in her father's footsteps. Driving conservatives out of the GOP. If enough conservatives bolt the party, the GOP will die. Leaving mostly moderates and liberals in full charge of a dying political party. A goal to be proud of, if you're a moderate or a liberal.
It's better to be right, and fight for the right, than be President and control Congress, and install hateful, useless, treasonous policies. If it's going to be done, let the haters, the useless, and the traitors (the Democratic Party, and those that vote for its candidates) do it.
My hands will be clean for the future.
Nooooo, M'am.
Whadda ya think I am, crazy? :o)
Settled in a little backwater burg called, Wayne Township.
Go ahead & try to find it, I dare ya. ;^)
Here is an interesting quote:
“Dumping barge loads of compact florescent bulbs into the ocean is viewed by some real conservatives as a better statement than working to improve and clean up the technology. Since when did it become a badge of honor to leave every light in your house burning to no purpose wasting not only electricity but the owners money rather than taking part in an hour of energy conservation?”
This person is an example of the problem. He wants to go along with feel good nothings. Substance does not matter it is the intention of the do gooder. Is that the destination of the Republican party? Taking a part in an hour of energy conservation is stupid. Turning off your lights to conserve energy is a personal choice. I don’t go out of my way to leave my lights on but I don’t pretend that I’m saving the world when I don’t when at the most I’m saving a few bucks on my electric bill. That is the problem with the kind of thinking above. The attempt to elevate inane environmental parlor tricks to some great significance. It is a testament to the success of the environmental movement in dumbing down the debate that people believe such things. Conservatives don’t want to destory the environment they just are practical on the issue and one of the reasons they including myself get upset at individuals like Ms. McCain is that they declare war on conservatives because we don’t participate in their religious zeal for “green this and green that”. We have developed a valid skepticism for the radical environmentalism that often represents rampant misantrophism. What we have in most “Rhinos” is childish infantile thinking they really don’t know the issues and really aren’t very mature or reasoned. All you have to look at is someone who feels justified by the quick comments of people who disagree to a blog post. How well reasoned one’s thoughts are is not determined by the lack of reason of one’s opponents but children think like that. You are mean so I am right or justified. What this Jazz needs to do is open his mind and explore why we feel so strongly about the empty headed diatribes of Ms. McCain.
“It is the conservatives who are being purged”
Yes. That’s exactly what I see.
I think most see the fact Socialists hijacked the Democrat Party a number of years ago, but I don’t think too many are aware the Socialists didn’t stop there. They have been infiltrating the Republican Party as well, and that is where the upsurge in RINO membership originates IMO.
IMO their goal is obvious, and that is to drive Conservatism to a third party which is oblivion, irrelevance, history.
The result would be Dems could have their far Left constituency with the Dem Party, their alleged Moderate constituency with their control of the Republican Party, and they would have control of the Conservatives as having relegated them to oblivion. Any move by Conservatism could be countered by the control of the vast majority that is the Leftist machine. (What is frustrating to me is that the Leftist mindset is such a minority, how could they do this? The answer is in what they targeted for their control, but that’s a different topic to address on a different thread that will occur someday.)
Seems to me that people associate with Political Parties more than Political ideologies. Perhaps you might think that is BS, but you are a Conservative, thus you think. Too many folks don’t when it comes to Politics. They react to feelings, emotions. Thus the slow, but steady movement towards Leftism that under Obama seems to be now in full race mode.
I do believe the most important move today is to overwhelm the Republican Party leadership, and prevent the plans of the Socialists from becoming reality by taking back that Political Party.
I suspect McCain and his daughter both voted for Obama.
If the Republicans become socially liberal, what is the incentive for social conservatives, a truly significan proportion of the GOP, to vote for them?
Correction—our COUNTRY is is real trouble—and to some on the left, from 1600 Pa Ave.on down— that’s a good thing.
I guess if we roll over and play dead, and espouse the same doctrines as the Democrats, with no regard for our worldview, our ethics, our morals, our religion, our consciences, or our self-respect, then we maybe can syphon off a few votes from some people we have little if anything in common with.
To borrow a line from the great Theodore Dalrymple—people like Meghan McCain and her take on “fixing” the GOP, are akin to someone with the view that the cure for constipation is diarrhea.
