Schumer, Gillibrand Urge Repeal Of Gun Records Policy

NEW YORK -- New York Senators Charles Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand are calling for the repeal of federal policy requiring records of gun background checks be destroyed after 24 hours.

The Democratic lawmakers say the Tiahrt Amendment restricts police from using gun trace information.

They said such information is crucial to cracking down on illegal gun trafficking and reducing gun violence.

Schumer and Gillibrand are urging President Barack Obama to reinstate a 90-day retention period.

Obama has said he supports the repeal of the amendment.

Looks like Kirsten Gillibrand has been rolled by Chuck on the gun issue. Repealing this law is a back door registration scheme. Soon the will keep the records for 90 days, then forever.

Hey Shuner...How does one reconcile being both a Jew, and a Nazi, at the same time?

Before they can take guns, they have to know who has ‘em.

I knew this Gillibrand was full of crap. You cannot get elected to her district by being anti-gun. She sold her constituents a line of BS to get elected.

Hey Schumer, people who are buying guns illegally don’t fill out background check forms. Schmuck!

Sooooooooo....what about the promise made to Americans that these records would in fact be immediately destroyed after the background checks? THAT was the compromise to mollify folks who worried that the records might later be used against citizens by the federal government later on, right?

Goes to show that these sorts of "promises" are worthless.

Schumer's job is to be a well paid and protected ass.

There is no sense nor consistency to anything he says ( more and more dems seem to be going this way, also ), leading one to conclude, he's told what to say and he says it.

The dems are not patriots, they are enemies.

If you think the NCICS destroys the records from instant background checks I got some beach front land to sell you in Arizona.

The federal government has already got their list, the Tiahardt amendment makes sure they the ONLY ONES that has got access to that list.

So, since there is a list, I say the people having access to that list is the fist step to getting rid of it. It would sure bud confirms it's existence.

This is perfectly understandable behavior, once you acknowledge that Schumer and Obama are both power crazed Communists who FEAR an armed citizenship...

An unarmed man is an enslaved subject.
An armed man is a free citizen.

Amazing thing about Washington. It changes political opinions quickly. Maybe Soros is helping Schumer convince Gillibrand with his poisoned money.

“An unarmed man is an enslaved subject.
An armed man is a free citizen.”

Politicians prefer unarmed peasants.

So, 24 hours to ninety days, even for people that 100% pass the background check. If this passes, anyone who thinks this information will be destroyed after 90 days are snorting the same stuff that Obama admits to snorting.

Part of the Brady Law was the introduction of Instant Check as soon as possible with the caveat that records would be destroyed at the end of the day or until the request was Approved or Denied.

I have called on NICS that had been written incorrectly and hte answer I recieved was .."Have the purchaser fill out another as we do not have records of that transaction."

Chuckie wants the records kept to trace SS#'s, if provided. It's the only real ID number included on the 4473 as there is little other information to glean from that data.

Well said, and absolutely true. I've called Schumer a Nazi myself.

No offense, but they don’t need SSNs to track who has what, after you look at all the information you have to give them on those forms. They have a plethora of information to tag/track someone with even if they don’t get an SSN.

When it comes to gun ownership, you better believe that there are copies of the records somewhere. They may destroy the originals, to keep with the letter of the law, but only after they have been scanned in to someones computer. This gun tracability to help solve crimes is a big diaper load. Criminals don’t go to Big Bob’s Guns and bait store and plop down $500.00 for a 9mm. He can get one by stealing it from someones house or car. Duh they are criminals. This ONLY tracks firearms purchased by law abiding Americans. I swear this admin has declared war on the American taxpayer.

The Social Security Act itself provided that that number never be used as an individual identifier. That was a promise FDR had to make up and down the line, to get the bill passed.

They lied, they lie, they will lie.

And yes, the only reason for registration is precisely confiscation.

How does keeping records of CLEAR background checks for legal purchases help crack down on ILLEGAL gun sales? It is not the legal gun owners that are the problem.

The conspiracy theorist deep inside wonders if 24 hours isn’t enough time for them to extract and archive the information and that perhaps these guys just want to know where to send the brown shirts when the time comes - ‘allegedly’...

It’s New York State. I’ll bet that if they have the records and the law expires and reverts back to 24 hrs, if it goes back to 90 days they will still have the records that were supposed to be destroyed with the 24 hr. version of the law.
