The government should have no say about marriage, and the plank in the Republican Party platform that calls for preserving marriage between a man and a woman should be scrapped, former New Jersey Gov. Christine Todd Whitman (R) told CNSNews.com.
Furthermore, the U.S. military should not differentiate between homosexuals and heterosexuals, said Whitman. The former governor spoke Friday at the Log Cabin Republicans (LCR) 2009 convention and symposium in Washington, D.C.
The Log Cabin Republicans are a group that seeks to promote homosexual and lesbian concerns within the GOP. In her speech, Whitman spoke about how inclusion can help the GOP become stronger, and she called on the Republican Party to veer in a moderate direction.
Well, I am somebody who believes in the separation of church and state and that the government, frankly, ought to be out of the business of marriage entirely, Whitman told CNSNews.com after her speech.
It ought to be everybody heterosexual, homosexual. When you go down and register to get married, thats when the legal transfer of everything occurs and thats a legal recognition of a relationship and if you want to get married in a church, a temple, whatever, and you find one, great! she said.
Civil marriage, everybody, said Whitman. I am not against marriage for gay couples. I just think it would make the issue easier if it was civil marriage for everybody. And I am not against I mean, its [same-sex marriage] not going to threaten my marriage. I mean my 35th anniversary is on Monday. Its not going to threaten my marriage to have a gay couple married.
Whitman said that the entire issue of same-sex marriage ought to be removed from the Republican Party platform. That part, entitled, Preserving Tradition Marriage, partly reads:

“GOP Should Remove Traditional Marriage Plank from Party Platform, Whitman Says”
GOP Should Remove Rhinos From Party Say Real Republicans.
Whitman needs removed from the GOP.
You wont hear that from me. I am conservative first and foremost...Christy Whitman was a a$$ as governor (I think of NJ) she was stupid in the Bush Admin. and she has gone hill from those high points..
Whitman???? That quote sounds suspiciously like Michael Steele. Oh, I forgot, they're both RINOs.
As a libertarian, I agree that the government has no business interfering in private contracts, period.
1. If the GOP had any brains they would push this angle: you want the government to stay out of marriage, fine, I want the government to stay out of Wall Street, corporate boardrooms, and private contracts of all types, not just marriage.
2. I would also push hard on the “wedge issue” and “divisiveness” angles.
3. Finally, the GOP could use this to hammer on how we have become a nation of black robed tyrant judges.
The GOP could use this issue to great advantage, but they are way too stupid, so watch them blow it big time.
Hey brother I'm with you in your disgust of these fools.
As conservatives we have a few choices. We can leave the Pubs and form a 3rd party. I think that only serves the Rats, their base will not leave because their political affiliation is a religion for them. We can stay and transform the Pubs.
I am staying and transforming them!
How am I doing it? I am not giving the GOP anymore contributions, instead all $'s I'm giving are going to a PAC set up by Sen. DeMint called:
SenateConservatives.com
I will support conservative Pubs and that's it. I don't expect all Pubs to agree with me, so if the log cabin pubs want to support liberal Pubs that's their business. However, I am confident that the Pubs I support comprise the majority of the party and I expect them to stand up and act like it.
I guess minority status suits you. I rather put up with the minority within my party, as long as the majority leads it, and regain control of the govt so real change can be accomplished.
It's easy to sit on the sidelines and have "ideological purity" it's a battle to actually get something done.
“There are no social issues in the Contract because those issues do not belong at the Federal level.”
Darn straight, they don’t BELONG there—but they ARE there!
Party policies/planks define and reflect an underlying philosophy. Whether or not those tenets be decided at town, county, state, or federal level, they’re intended to flesh out that underlying philosophy and to portray the default position of its standard-bearers absent deliberate disavowal by individual candidates (as if candidates are always candid!). Otherwise, why bother with party labels?
Part of the philosophy of today’s GOP, I think, is the notion that truth & error, right & wrong are knowable options, not exclusively as a result of Judeo-Christian/Western Civilization identity but as a result of common sense. The “social” issues I think we’re talking about here (abortion, gay marriage, embryonic stem cell research, cloning, among others), issues never directly addressed in the Constitution, have come to be portrayed as religious issues only because certain religions, religions that espouse the knowability of right-wrong options (or natural law), still oppose them. Up until late in the past century, churches and “religion” in general needn’t have played any role at all in identifying and opposing these obvious affronts to natural law. It was common sense to believe that the deliberate killing of a preborn was at least as heinous as killing a postborn. Even if the former offense wasn’t punished (and in the overwhelming majority of cases, it wasn’t), the idea that such life-taking could become “legal” was simply unthinkable. Ditto the “right” of gay marriage, etc.
As to inserting “religious” items into any platform, it wouldn’t be necessary if newly enacted laws hadn’t already bullied their way into the federal square.
Funny, considering the fact that our party endorses or nominates candidates based on principle, not party label, and that in the recent IL-5 congressional special election to fill Rahm Emanuel's vacant seat, the Republican Party didn't lift ONE FINGER to help their own nominee, conservative FReeper Rosanna Pulido, while AIP people worked the phones, worked the precincts, worked to elect a true conservative, tirelessly.
In other words, your post couldn't be further from reality, and it couldn't be more hypocritical.
Very well said.
In an election??? What about the effect on absolutely everything in our society? Same with the enviromentalists, who call all the shots in regard to our energy needs and a miriade of other issues.
Look at the breakdown of our population:
13% black population
15% hispanic/latinos
5.0 Asian
1.5 Amer.Ind./Alaskan
1.5 Arab/Mid.Eastern (difficult to get %)
.1 Native HI/Pacific Isles
That is a total of 36% of the population claiming some sort of minority "rights" in the USA.
I would think that would mean that 64% of the population, presumably white, are being controlled by factions of the 36% minority.
According to one site:
Depending on who is doing the counting, between 2 and 6% of the US population is gay homosexual.
So, let's pretend for a moment that a whopping 10% of the population are homosexuals. First, you would never guess that only 2-10% of the population are homosexual when you turn on a TV and have legislation to elevate them and their beliefs/actions. Why are such a tiny faction being given so much attention?
Same thing with all the "Go Green" crap!
What percentage of the USA actually believe in half the garbage they are pushing? And why are they permitted to control the argument on such a wide array of issues?
Bingo. She’s a ‘Bloomberg republican’. Heard it before

What do you think, DHY2K - third party? I am not a third party fan because (up til now) they just suck votes from the GOP. But if this junk and garbage is what the GOP is turning into, then I puke on the GOP.
Here’s a quote I saw on another forum, and RINOS are traitors:
A nation can survive its fools, and even the ambitious. But it cannot survive treason from within. An enemy at the gates is less formidable, for he is known and carries his banner openly. But the traitor moves freely, his sly whispers heard in the very halls of government itself. For the traitor appears not a traitor; he speaks in accents familiar to his victims...he infects the body politic so that it can no longer resist. A murderer is less to fear. Cicero
This increasing drumbeat of “the government should be out of the business of marriage anyway” is really strange. They say that while PUSHING the government to legalize perverts getting “married”. Doublespeak.
If the GOP adopts all the liberal causes, What will it matter who a Conservative votes for? Lose = lose....
Cicero is right.
