The government should have no say about marriage, and the plank in the Republican Party platform that calls for preserving marriage between a man and a woman should be scrapped, former New Jersey Gov. Christine Todd Whitman (R) told CNSNews.com.
Furthermore, the U.S. military should not differentiate between homosexuals and heterosexuals, said Whitman. The former governor spoke Friday at the Log Cabin Republicans (LCR) 2009 convention and symposium in Washington, D.C.
The Log Cabin Republicans are a group that seeks to promote homosexual and lesbian concerns within the GOP. In her speech, Whitman spoke about how inclusion can help the GOP become stronger, and she called on the Republican Party to veer in a moderate direction.
Well, I am somebody who believes in the separation of church and state and that the government, frankly, ought to be out of the business of marriage entirely, Whitman told CNSNews.com after her speech.
It ought to be everybody heterosexual, homosexual. When you go down and register to get married, thats when the legal transfer of everything occurs and thats a legal recognition of a relationship and if you want to get married in a church, a temple, whatever, and you find one, great! she said.
Civil marriage, everybody, said Whitman. I am not against marriage for gay couples. I just think it would make the issue easier if it was civil marriage for everybody. And I am not against I mean, its [same-sex marriage] not going to threaten my marriage. I mean my 35th anniversary is on Monday. Its not going to threaten my marriage to have a gay couple married.
Whitman said that the entire issue of same-sex marriage ought to be removed from the Republican Party platform. That part, entitled, Preserving Tradition Marriage, partly reads:

But Governor, the government is already deeply involved in marriage. It is too late to back out now. Every state should adopt the one man, one woman definition for marriage and for any benefits derived - Keep the platform as it is!!
GOP Should Remove NE Republicans politicians’ from having anything to do with the Party Platform.
GOP should remove Whitman.
So much fro the “big tent” party. We need to cut the fat.
Liar.
So how does Whitman feel wbout polygamy? How bout brother marrying sisters? Inquiring minds want to know.
We will never root out all evil from our present world. But we should not accept, encourage, and promote it. This is where we are at and I too think God’s hand has been removed from our once great country.
Whiteman needs to be removed from the Republican Party.
Let her and Specter go somewhere else.

Obama Says A Baby Is A Punishment
Obama: If they make a mistake, I dont want them punished with a baby.
She is placing a bet that the conservatives will be marginalized within the R party, or will withdraw altogether. The battle is joined.
I think the better approach will be to get her OUT of the party and any that dilute it. I used to feel the same way you did but have come to realize that we must clean out and purge the party itself.

I don’t agree with Whitman usually but I think most of the Party platform belongs in the trash. It needs to be short and with common sense. They ramble on and on so some groups can insert what they want. Our State Platform was a bad joke that belonged in the trash.
People don’t understand when you insert certain religious items in the Platform for schools, you open up the slippery slope to the Koran or anything else. Federal Government has no business being involved in most social issues either way — it belongs to the States.
I supported the Contract with America because that is something Conservatives can run on and be proud. There are no social issues in the Contract because those issues do not belong at the Federal level.
Social issues belong in my home, in my church, and my community and on rare instances at the State Government. The Feds have no right to tell my state what we can or cannot do and that includes Education. Feds should not be responsible for Education. The older I get the more State’s Rights I become. SCOTUS should never have gotten involved in ruling on social isues from a state. Their only rulings should be on the CONSTITUTION.

Forget you Miss Chrissy.
McCain, Whitman, Specter, Collins, et al, are as much my allies in what I hope for America in politics as are the “God is Dead” liberals in religion.
I've no use for them or for any group that aids, abets, harbors, or provides comfort to them in any manner.
Isn’t Christine another 0bama voter? What does she think about states passing laws against same sex marriage? Does her belief that outlawing sexual perversion doesn’t fall under the auspices of federal law makers stretch to state and local levels? Who can say that society should have sexual standards, and say what those standards should be? Why can’t marriage remain what it has been for thousands of years, a personal and social contract between a man and a woman? Why does the nature of that contract have to change to accommodate something it has never accommodated in the past? Who can say what the limits of the marriage contract should be? Should governing bodies be permitted to outlaw polygamy? What about bestiality or pedophilia, or a host of statutory laws? Who knows what the contract of marriage could be made to accommodate? Goodness knows Republicans can’t get votes by sticking to conservatism and social standards. There are plenty of perverts the GOP could cater to, providing they could offer more than the Democrats.
