Good Day to all Freepers. I hope I have chosen the correct options to keep this in the proper topic area.
For about 6 months now, I have been using a device that helps me to reduce my cigarette consumption. Over time, I have gone from 2 1/2 packs of cigarettes per day down to about total 4 cigarettes per day. This device is one a lot of you may have heard about recently in the news, the electronic cigarette (or e-cig). It is also commonly referred to as a "PV" or personal vaporizer.
In recent weeks, the device has attracted the attention of the FDA and other do-gooders who want it banned on the grounds that it is untested.
I will breifly describe the device:
It consists of 3 parts
1- Power source (battery in most cases)
2- an "atomizer" that converts liquid into a vapor <0> 3- A cartridge that contains the liquid containing nicotine (some have no nicotine, most do)
The liquid contained in the cartridge is made of 3 ingredients: Vegetable Glycerin (most commonly used in baking), nicotine of varying strength ( the user chooses how strong or weak to buy the liquid up to a maximum of 34mg/ml), and flavoring.
When the user draws on the device similar to smoking, the battery is activated and charges the "atomizer" that converts the liquid into a vapor and it is inhaled in turn delivering nicotine and simulated smoke. The exhaled vapor is harmless water vapor that has near zero odor (I have yet to find anyone who can smell it at all).
Recently, legislation has been introduced to ban the sale of the devices and the liquid used by classifying the technology as a drug delivery device.
Everyone who uses one of these already knows the benefits and how much better they feel compared to conventional smoking. Nobody here is claiming it is harmless nor will anyone claim it is a smoking cessation device. However, MANY of us are using them to cut down on or totally stop smoking for many reasons including health and taxes.
We all know inhaling anything is risky. But we compare it to smoking and I think the conclusion pretty much speaks for itself. I cannot tell you how excited I am about this after smoking for 30 years, and now I am faced with losing it.
We can make many assumptions and accusations as to why some groups would want them banned, but we prefer to avoid that discussion and attempt to enlist the support of other smokers and anyone else who can think with reason, logic and common sense.
As users of the device, we want studies done just as much as anyone else, but we demand that the politics and lobbying stay hands-off while those studies are done and this very new technology is evaluated for both it's risks and benefits.
I am here asking for support from all Freepers and anyone else those members can bring on board to assist in signing the petition.
I personally consider this a life saving and life changing device. I have newfound freedom from the harassment and degradation of being a smoker.
I really did not want to post this here, but this is a very exciting technology that is in danger of being lost to politics. Who better than Freepers to help us in our fight!
I'm asking with all respect for anyone who has 2 minutes to please visit and fill out the petition. If you want your husband or wife to stop stinking up the house, you really need to look at this.
As a side note, anyone who is interested can read the public community forums and check it out for themselves. Just google "e-cig" and look for the various forums available.

I had good luck with JantyUSA.com with my purchases. I purchased a Dura-C and the KissBox Extended which came with a pass through. The pass through replaces the battery portion of the e-cig and has a usb plug that can be plugged into your computer OR a Kensington power pack (K38021US)that I purchased at Amazon. Now I can vape for 2 days before I have to do a recharge which takes about 1 hour. The power pack is the way to go IMO. I purchase the juice from JohnsonCreek.com. It is a USA company and sells both VG and PG type juice.

Wow. First time I've ever heard of that. Your dog will probably just have to go cold turkey.
Funny. I grew up in a house where my mom smoked almost constantly, and with pretty poor ventilation. I didn't get hooked on tobacco from being immersed in her second-hand smoke, though. Out of seven kids, only three of us ever wound up with a serious habit, and two of us started smoking after leaving home.
Thank you for the links, Arbee. Much appreciated.
Thanks for all the useful data, Melissa. It helps a lot.
I hope that I can avail myself of this great solution before Ozero’s FDA bans it in this country. It’s just so typical of mindless liberals to support those things that are destructive, and to fight against every pro-survival thing.
I’m glad you posted this, as I’d never heard of e-cigarettes before. Now after doing a little googling and blog-reading, I’ve ordered one to try. Thanks!
“Sounds like the smokeless cigarette that RJR spent millions developing and never brought top market.”
That was called Premier, and they test marketed it in their hometown of Winston-Salem. I wasn’t electronic and relied on a piece of burning charcoal to heat the tobacco which had to be re-lit at least 2-3 times to finish the smoke. I bought one pack and tossed it after 2 or 3 frustrating smokes.
You sound exactly like the do-gooders wanting to ban tobacco. Can't say I've ever seen a friend's kid laying on a slab in the morgue but I've been to a whole bunch of funerals and wakes of people dead from lung cancer and other smoking-related illnesses.
I laid the bait and you took it hook, line and sinker!
Good luck, I hope it leads to a more healthy life for you.
did you sign the petition? if so, thanks for helping!
I smoked for 25 years, about 25 per day, and loved it.
Tried cold turkey about five times, but only lasted 2 weeks to 2 months.
On my 40th birthday I changed tactics.
I stopped smoking in my house and in my car, and I cut back to 15 a day.
I cut back each birthday after that, and went to zero on my 45th birthday.
Going from 25 a day to 5 a day was not hard.
Going from 5 to zero was tough.
I've been smoke free for 14 years.
After the first year, thank goodness, the desire to smoke completely disappeared.
It's a hell of an addiction, isn't it? It's amazing to me that it took a whole year for your craving to completely disappear. Nicotine is one powerful drug.
One of the most attractive attributes of the e-cigarette method is that long-term smokers are reporting a complete cessation of addiction in only a couple of weeks. And that is without having to go through the horrible withdrawal symptoms.
Amazing. I'm ready to do this. Even after 40 years of smoking, I still enjoy it, but I realize that I'm pushing my luck with my health at this point.
A few years ago I was standing outside my office smoking a cigarette. Two women were walking towards me as I puffed away. As they approached, one of them (smoking nazi) said Do you know how many chemicals are in that ?
My answer to that is....not enough chemicals or alcohol to get any man to put up with you.
My response to the fat woman waiving her sausages in my direction to blow away the smoke was....
Me: What's the problem Madam?
Lard Ass: That smoke is annoying. (fanning her face with her hand)
Me: So is looking at your fat ass in that size 12 dress but you don't see me covering my eyes. I have manners.
