Barack Obama must beware of playing party politics with security
Telegraph (U.K.) ^ | April 18, 2009 | Con Coughlin

All it is going to take is a massive terror attack to teach President Obama that there is a world of difference between the politics of the campaign trail and those of high office.

You have only to look at his stunning success in last year's election race to see that Mr Obama is the consummate campaign performer. Early in the contest I watched the then Democratic candidate in action in Kansas, where he had managed to persuade thousands of Americans who would not normally involve themselves in politics – cowhands, students and disillusioned pensioners – to turn up on a bitterly cold night to hear him speak. Throughout his hour-long speech he wowed the crowd with his commitment to make the world a better place, while giving precious little indication as to how precisely he intended to achieve this messianic goal.

And, in many respects, the style Mr Obama has adopted during his first 100 days as President is not markedly different from that which won him the presidency. On the domestic front, he is trying to sustain the feel-good factor by pledging vast amounts of tax dollars to bail the country out of its self-inflicted financial catastrophe.

Meanwhile, Mr Obama has travelled far afield to imbue both allies and enemies with a new sense of well-being, the feeling that the world is a better and safer place now that the abhorrent Bush administration is no longer in office. Whether it is his appeal to Iran's fundamentalist mullahs to unclench their fists, his reluctance to confront North Korea's nuclear activities or his "new beginning" with Cuba, the President wants to be everybody's friend, as he was on last year's campaign trail.

But a change of leadership at the White House does not mean the world has suddenly become a

A “massive terrorist attack” is my greatest fear and one that seems to be forgotten by most Americans! 9/11 is a distant memory for most and the MSM gladly stays away from the subject, even on 9/11.

WHEN, not IF we’re attacked again, the little boy from Kenya will apologize us into Sharia Law...or worse.

What I want explained is why we get more informed commentary about American politics and policies from the other side of the pond than we do from newspapers in our own back yards?

All it would take for Mr Obama's presidency to suffer similar ignominy would be for a recently released Guantanamo detainee to launch a devastating terrorist attack against the US.

Count on it! Serving time in Gitmo has become a status thing for the Al Qaeda goons, who proudly wear it as a badge of honor in jihadi circles. The former Gitmo detainees are the ones rising to Al Qaeda's leadership positions and organizing and launching the next series of terror attacks inside this country. Just wait and see!

If there is a terror attack, he will blame it on right wing extremists and Bush policies, and use it as an excuse to clamp down on the right in this country, especially if we point out that his weakness caused the attack. Or maybe if the terrorists take to long, he’ll burn the Reichstag himself.

The ongoing Obama campaign is much more interested in manipulating appearances than dealing with reality.
