Key witness in passport fraud case fatally shot

A key witness in a federal probe into passport information stolen from the State Department was fatally shot in front of a District church, the Metropolitan Police Department said yesterday.

Lt. Quarles Harris Jr., 24, who had been cooperating with a federal investigators, was found late Thursday night slumped dead inside a car, in front of the Judah House Praise Baptist Church in Northeast, said Cmdr. Michael Anzallo, head of the department's Criminal Investigations Division.

Cmdr. Anzallo said a police officer was patrolling the neighborhood when gunshots were heard, then Lt. Harris was found dead inside the vehicle, which investigators would describe only as a blue car.

Emergency medics pronounced him dead at the scene.

City police said they do not know whether his death was a direct result of his cooperation with federal investigators.

"We don't have any information right now that connects his murder to that case," Cmdr. Anzallo said.

Police say a "shot spotter" device helped an officer locate Lt. Harris.

The Washington Times reported April 5 that contractors for the State Department had improperly accessed passport information for presidential candidates Sens. Hillary Rodham Clinton, Barack Obama and John McCain, which resulted in a series of firings that reached into the agency's top ranks.

One agency employee, who was not identified in documents filed in U.S. District Court, was implicated in a credit-card fraud scheme after Lt. Harris told federal authorities he obtained "passport information from a co-conspirator who works for the U.S. Department of State."

Yeah, strange indeed (IMO).

As for a mojito (as already mentioned), it's a mixed drink that consists of (one example):

* 2-3 oz Light rum
* Juice of 1 Lime (1 oz)
* 2 tsp Sugar
* 2-4 Mint sprigs

facts? that’s what’s been the whole problem with 0bama... no one has any facts.

hilary and mccain, we have that info (or it has been presented). 0bama never has and has spent almost $1m to keep anyone from getting it.

so... i would say the FACTS as we have them are that we know nothing about 0bama’s background, nothing concrete.

we don’t even have his school or college records.

we have an admission that he traveled to pakistan during the 80s, at a time when Americans could not travel there.

we also have his paternal grandmother saying she was at his birth in kenya.

we know he had indonesian citizenship when he was a kid.

we do not know if he signed up for selective service (draft) at 18. (a fraudulent web-doc appeared and was batted down)

i could go on, but you get the picture.

i would say if the victim was involved in fraudulently obtaining 0bama’s passport info, which may contain info showing his citizenship is of question... that would be a very juicy piece of blackmail material... and would be motive.

i see NO ONE as above the law... therefore, NO ONE is above suspicion if they have motive.

My only contention was about how you could know that he is the ONLY one with questions about his passport. Once I had some coffee I became less muddle headed and it made sense to me. I should never post before my second mug of coffee.

A 24-year-old man who was killed in Northeast Washington on Thursday night was awaiting trial for credit card fraud in a case involving information that was stolen from passport applications, court documents show.

Leiutenant Q. Harris Jr. told authorities about the scam after his arrest March 25 during a traffic stop, according to an arrest affidavit filed in U.S. District Court. The document quoted him as saying he got passport information from a U.S. State Department employee, which he used to obtain bogus credit cards.

Harris also told police that an employee with the U.S. Postal Service was in on the scam, intercepting the credit cards before they could be delivered to the residences of people named on the accounts. The State Department and postal employees were not named in the affidavit.

Harris ‘s mother, Cleopatria Harris , said yesterday that she is “absolutely sure” her son was killed because of his involvement in the case. No one has been arrested in the killing.

This is completely bizarre. How in HELL could we have missed this?

I also read the stories at the time about the passport shennanigans, and a number of later stories as well, some of which suggested that the people involved were actually connected with and probably working for Obama, and possibly ensuring that his passport information would NOT get out.

I can’t believe that no one made the connection with this guy’s murder. This really is shades of Vince Foster.

My first thought was that maybe the date was misprinted in the Washington Times, and it should have read 2009 instead of 2008. But if so, then it was also misprinted in the police report. Could that be possible? Somebody should get in touch with someone working at the Washington Times and check it out, if possible.
