Key witness in passport fraud case fatally shot
A key witness in a federal probe into passport information stolen from the State Department was fatally shot in front of a District church, the Metropolitan Police Department said yesterday.
Lt. Quarles Harris Jr., 24, who had been cooperating with a federal investigators, was found late Thursday night slumped dead inside a car, in front of the Judah House Praise Baptist Church in Northeast, said Cmdr. Michael Anzallo, head of the department's Criminal Investigations Division.
Cmdr. Anzallo said a police officer was patrolling the neighborhood when gunshots were heard, then Lt. Harris was found dead inside the vehicle, which investigators would describe only as a blue car.
Emergency medics pronounced him dead at the scene.
City police said they do not know whether his death was a direct result of his cooperation with federal investigators.
"We don't have any information right now that connects his murder to that case," Cmdr. Anzallo said.
Police say a "shot spotter" device helped an officer locate Lt. Harris.

The Washington Times reported April 5 that contractors for the State Department had improperly accessed passport information for presidential candidates Sens. Hillary Rodham Clinton, Barack Obama and John McCain, which resulted in a series of firings that reached into the agency's top ranks.
One agency employee, who was not identified in documents filed in U.S. District Court, was implicated in a credit-card fraud scheme after Lt. Harris told federal authorities he obtained "passport information from a co-conspirator who works for the U.S. Department of State."

Uh, I’m not one of his fans either but I don’t see any way that you could possibly know this as a fact.
the only 3 passports breached were Clinton, McCain and Obama. Out of those 3, obama is clearly the one with questionable origins/travels.

I remember the discussion a year ago about someone digging up passport info on the 3 candidates but I am not sure I remember this murder connection.

It would be interesting to see what this murdered guy said regarding the passport files but with Holder guarding O bow ma’s gate now, the information will never come out in truth, spun into fanciful lies maybe, but never the truth. A wicked man is being protected from exposure because he is a useful devil for demcorat schemes of socialist America. Should he reject the democrap directives, he will not be in office to finish his term because the democrap operatives have the data to turn the nation against him overnight if exposed to the enemedia. Either the vintner is non-existent and the listing is a means to pass coded data, or the Lt. is an alias. Perhaps Harris is now relocated to a convenient address and new name so Obamaicde cannot be done on him in exchange for further data forthcoming. One thing is sure, we the people will never know the full truth.

Mr. Harris was fatally shot in Northeast Washington in April. Police at the time said they had no information linking his shooting to his involvement in the passport case.
The breach came to light in March around the same time The Times first reported that three State Department contract employees were being investigated for improperly accessing the passport data of presidential candidates Sens. Barack Obama, John McCain and Hillary Rodham Clinton.
Mr. McCormack said the cases are not related.

If I read it correctly, there are three different cases; the access of passport data of presidential candidates, involvement in a passport/credit card fraud ring, and murder. One and two are not related, and it is uncertain if either are linked to Harris’ murder.
One needs to wonder who Harris was working for in regard to the candidate passport breach, and if he was recruited given his involvement in the fraud ring.

I just read the very few articles from 2008.
For a employee of the State Separtment who had been involved in Passport and Credit Card Schemes there is very little mention of the political aspects of the story and not surprisingly, NO followup in 2008 or 2009.
Most of us here on FR are news junkies & so many are saying they do not recall this story. I remember the passport story but not Harris’s death. Very strange.

Exactly. I have been on more BC threads than I can count and I never recall this being discussed...
Furthermore, I did a cursory search of FR archives through Google Advanced Search and I did not find one thread where the name "Quarles Harris" came up until the posts from last night and today.
The family seems to have a penchant for unusual spellings of unusual names. “Leiutenant” was his first name, full name being Leiutenant Quarles Harris. His mother’s name is Cleopatria, and she was very concerned that this might have been related to his having turned informant, to the point of offering a reward.
Newspaper reporters assumed he was Lt. Quarles Harris in error, or perhaps it was deliberate, given that the story seems to have been spiked or at least given very short shrift, which was very odd in light of the possible implications. You’d think some newspaper, dying from lack of readership and losing ad revenue, would jump all over such a story, filled with political intrigue and possibly involving a Presidential candidate. But ... no.

Well, at least they haven't called this case a "suicide" - not yet, anyway.
