I was born and raised in the South, and have only been a Mainer since 2000.
Had my first experience of 26 degrees below zero this winter.
I kind of hope it's my last, too.
Although some folks in the county had it REAL cold...

LOL!
Yeah, I've heard variations on that for awhile.
Or maybe the Mainah replied:
"Ayuh, I learned not to drive in mud season!"

The thing is, you got to embrace it to a certain extent.
I lived 45 years in the South, and I could easily have moved here resentfully, and cringed by the stove, and complained all the time.
But I made up my mind to get into it, and I tried ice skating, and skiing, and snowshoeing.
I'm OK on skates now, and go snowshoeing now and then. Couldn't get the hang of skiing - sliding down a mountain on my butt is just not that much fun. But I tried it, anyway.

Its 40 at night and 85 in the day.
The windows are open at the moment and all is serene.

Hate when that happens! Reminds me of the time I had the fence watch in Boot Camp at Camp Moffat, Great Lakes on New Years Eve from 0200 to 0400 - it was twenty below and we had to walk the fence for two hours. My nasal hair froze so hard it hurt to breathe.
