Acknowledging that an apology is owed, Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano promised Thursday to meet and clear the air with veterans groups that were offended by her agencys report citing returning veterans as terrorist risks to the U.S.
To the extent veterans read it as an accusation, Napolitano told FOX News, an apology is owed.
Ill meet with the leaders of some of the veterans groups, she promised on FOX & Friends. The last thing we want to do is offend or castigate all veterans. To the contrary, lets meet and clear the air.
Napolitano said she was briefed on the report, including the warning about returning veterans, before it was released.

I have to tell you, I was the United States Attorney for Arizona in the 90s when Tim McVeigh bombed the Murrow building in Oklahoma City and unfortunately he was a vet thats where he got his training, she said. And so when I was told about the report, it rang true with me. This has happened in the past.

I have probably been on her list for years, since I labeled her as a clone of Jake Reno, aka, Janet Reno.
On the other hand, we are the ones trained to rain violence on the enemy. I am sworn in at my commissioning to “to protect and defend THE CONSTITUTION of the USA from ALL ENEMIES foreign and DOMESTIC.”
Those are the words. I didn’t write them. Some past thoughtful patriot thought they made sense.
I’m not sworn to defend Obama, Pelosi, Napolitano, McCain, Bush, Cheney or Rove.
I’m sworn to defend the Constitution. I’m sworn to defend it from DOMESTIC enemies.
Tea bags are stage one?
The dyke can shove her apology where the sun does not shine.
I'm sorry, BUT.........
I'm guessing that she apologized to Left-Wing Extremists, Enviro-Entremists, and Islamo-Extremists for implying that they might be in the same category with those awful Veterans...
Make that POS Commie scum.
Whoa there....no kidding? The report was NOT supposed to be released and yet it went out to every police station in the nation? How in the heck did they think it would be kept quiet and simply be kept slinking around the far left elite marxists?
And so when I was told about the report, it rang true with me. This has happened in the past.
That is not anapology.
This would mean a whole lot more, if Clarke had more credibility....
Come on! On this subject Clarke has one H*** of a better credibility record than Napolitano! even if he was infinitely negative, it would stll be Infinitely Better than that of Janet Napolitano’s. There is a big reason that Phoenix became the Kidnap capital of the WORLD and Ms. Napolitano earned that credit fair and square:-)
double speak garbage non appology.
Napolitano must resign. PERIOD.
the report rescinded. PERIOD.
Ditto. I'm so sorry for your loss -- and FR's.
Last night, our local paper was running an article that stated that civil liberty advisers for the Homeland Security had issued a statement that they had advised against release of the the report and that officials had released it anyway.
I’ll see if I can find the article.
Here is the article that appeared briefly in our local paper.
DHS right-wing report issued despite concerns
By EILEEN SULLIVAN 18 hours ago
WASHINGTON (AP) A Homeland Security official says the department’s office of civil rights and civil liberties objected to some of the language in the now-contentious right-wing extremism report, but the agency issued it anyway.
An intelligence assessment issued to law enforcement last week said some military veterans could be susceptible to extremist recruiters or commit lone acts of violence. This prompted angry responses from some lawmakers and veterans’ groups.
Homeland Security spokeswoman Amy Kudwa said the report was issued before officials resolved problems raised by the agency’s civil rights division. She said this was a breakdown of the agency’s internal process.
Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano has defended the report.
You can't put a sliding scale on integrity. Your assertion is like admitting that While Barack Obama lied about his birth place and Ted Kennedy lied about what happened when he drove his car off a bridge, Obama has more credibility because nobody died as a direct result of his deceit.
