Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano apologized to veterans in a FOX News interview after a DHS report labeled returning troops at risk for embracing right-wing extremism.
Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano apologized to veterans after a report issued by her department said troops returning from the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan were at risk for being recruited by right-wing extremists.
"To the extent veterans read it as an accusation ... an apology is owed," she said during an on-air interview on FOX News Thursday, a day after veterans' groups and members of Congress blasted her for the report, which they said libeled members of the armed forces.
"This was an assessment, not an accusation," Napolitano continued. "It was limited to extremists those who seek to commit violence within the United States. And all this was meant to do was to give law enforcement what we call 'situational awareness.'"
"The last thing I want to do is offend or castigate all veterans. To the contrary, let's meet and clear the air," she said.

Hey, I hear that we are opening relations with Cuba. Nice place for her to go.
Nother point, by insulting veterans, she is insluting all veterans. Band of brother dosen’t just mean your immediate buddy. There are traditions that extend way back to WWI, WWII, Korea, Vietnam, and Desert Storm vets. And how about the future kids that want to join up and serve our country. Are they going to go into the service knowiing that our Homeland security goon thinks they are racists and a threat to our own security? These morons never think things through. Words mean things
I so love being on the list. I am highly qualified on multiple levels.
If it looks like a duck and quacks like a duck...
Gosh, I’m going to go WAAAAY out on a limb here and say yes... /sarc
Having said that, it sure goes a long way to explain her chip on her shoulder regarding conservatives and Christians,
and her desire to use the [deadly] force of government against them.
*nod* - Though communication errors are sometimes difficult to apologize for. I’ve said things like “I’m sorry, I didn’t mean for [statement] to be taken _that_ way, I meant it to be taken _THIS_ way.” before... or the other way, on the hearing side.
Apology not accepted, bitch.
>>And all this was meant to do was to give law enforcement what we call ‘situational awareness.’”
“The last thing I want to do is offend or castigate all veterans. To the contrary, let’s meet and clear the air,” she said.<<
She apologized if they “took it wrong.”
But to remind them, they are still suspected potential terrorists.
A non- apology apology.
By who? Congress?
P.S. That was directed at Janet. I can’t stand her.
Secretary Napolitano, you’re a stupid dyke. To the extent you read that as an insult, an apology is owed.
ROFL! Perfect.
This Liberal notion that America’s troops are BAD for America smacks of the comments from Gov. Blanco when she REFUSED to call in the National Guard after Katrina because she didn’t want to put people in harms way.
Run the numbers, let Congressmen go on record whether they are okay with her partisan witchhunt or not.
"To the extent veterans read it as an accusation ... an apology is owed,"
That is NOT an apology.
You don’t accept her non-apology? So does that mean you DO? Two negatives can cancel each other out. < /duck and cover >
And this was leaked just before the TEA Parties. I think it was meant to intimidate.
“....an apology is owed.”
So who is apologizing? Who owes it? What kind of idiotic statement is that anywhay.
Can’t she just say...”On behalf of the Department, I apologize....”
What did she say? I can't hear anything.
