Georgetown Says It Covered Over Name of Jesus to Comply With White House Request

SNIPPET: "Georgetown University says it covered over the monogram “IHS”--symbolizing the name of Jesus Christ—because it was inscribed on a pediment on the stage where President Obama spoke at the university on Tuesday and the White House had asked Georgetown to cover up all signs and symbols there."

SNIPPET: "Roman Catholics traditionally use “IHS” as an abbreviation for Jesus’ name."

SNIPPET: "Although the monogram was removed from the wooden pediment on the Gaston Hall stage where it would have been directly above and behind President Obama as he spoke, the letters “IHS” are posted elsewhere around the hall approximately 26 times on shields representing different parts of the United States and the world."

This is nothing more than bambi being bambi. He is insulting EVERY American tradition and practice. It’s who he is. What bothers me is Catholic institutions like ND and others IGNORING that they are CATHOLIC and bowing down to this (Fill in the blank here). Anyone with his attitude on infanticide is on the same level of Joseph Mengele. What a monster. I can’t remember an elected official much less a president who had less respect for the people of this country. Well, respect runs both ways. There is none for him or his fellow travellers here. Hell, I won’t combine the words “President” and Obama together for fear of puking.

Mat 10:32 “Whoever acknowledges me before men, I will also acknowledge him before my FATHER in heaven. Mat 10:33 But whoever disowns me before men, I will disown him before my FATHER in heaven.

Scriptures also declare that at the Name of Jesus, every knee shall bow.

I have posted this before, but years ago, realized three important plumblines on determining an individual's worthiness of my vote -

1) Their position on Israel,

2) Their position on the unborn child, and

3) Their position on the Lord Jesus.

I came to understand that I would not agree with a candidate on every issue, but if we lined up on just these, the other positions would take care of themselves.

Guess who now fails on all three positions.

A confirmation of the situation our nation finds itself.

ahem, Don't Blame me, I voted for Sarah.

Hey Central Valley, Michelle is coming to speak at a UC, I think it is UC Merced. I think we need a peaceful protest to let her and her husband know Christian values are here to stay and nothing they do is going to change that. They are and always will be the small minded, trivial minority. Only through thug tactics can they erase our One Nation under God! And Liberty and Justice for all.

I could not agree with you more. Why so many Catholics put up with a party that denigrates them at every opportunity baffles me. I am Catholic - and it offends me to no end.

Thanks 444, I read this and it is pretty sad. I’m hoping the public is taking all of this in.

MESSAGE Catholics are dismayed that the University kowtowed to Obama by hiding it's Catholic symbols Obama says he finds offensive.

Even more appalling-----Pres Obama put on the charm offensive----gladhanding and smiling at Georgetown----at the same time his admin is preparing to clamp down on, and investigate, Catholics and Christians as potential "terrorists. "

A report the Obama admin sent to local law enforcement asked L/E to "identify and investigate" US citizens as possible suspects and threats to national security.

Specifically mentioned: veterans, opponents of homosexuality, abortion, gun control, and immigration, and advocates for border security, states rights, Christianity......even those who defend the US Constitution are suspects.

The document is an excerpt from a broader document that targets what Obama deems "extremism." The Obama admin does not want media to see the document and cautioned L/E not to show it to reporters.

This Orwellian initiative by the Obama admin installs Stalinism in the US government. Put another way: Obama's regime fingers those who disagree with it's policies as potential national security threats........ and would use L/E to silence opponents.

This Stalinesque purge must be stopped.

There’s a legend among Georgetown alumni:

The professor tells alum that “new students arriving at Georgetown do not know it is a Catholic college.”

The alum reply, “Do they know when they leave.”

"He didn’t have any trouble visiting the Blue Mosque.

All that "there is no god but allah and Mohammed is his profit" (yes I know) in glorious lettering, accompanied with swords is just fine.

It may be just a coincidence, but a lot of the Exorcist was shot in and around Georgetown University.

I do to. CNN probably is getting so much flack over the issue, they pulled it.

Mark 8:38 If anyone is ashamed of me and my words in this adulterous and sinful generation, the Son of Man will be ashamed of him when he comes in his Father's glory with the holy angels.

Luke 9:26 If anyone is ashamed of me and my words, the Son of Man will be ashamed of him when he comes in his glory and in the glory of the Father and of the holy angels.

Look at Post 175 (directly after your answer). Note that it reads IHS, not iota-eta-sigma. So, those are Latin letters, not Greek ones. So, It is not a monogram of +Jesus+’ name, but as other insist and I agree, IHS, in hoc signo [vinces], referring to Constantine’s symbol at the Battle of Milvian Bridge.

Besides, Georgetown was founded by Roman Catholics, not Greek Orthodox. It would be wonderful if they did adopt some Eastern symbology, but unusual and probably even at this point unprecedented.

I think it's one of those multiple-layer symbols, like a sheaf of wheat can symbolize the Eucharist, or it can symbolize the Gospel ("the sower soweth the seed, which is the word") etc. --- very common to have multiple meanings in Christian symbolism.

You'll find IHS on Greek icons, where it stands for the first 3 letter of Jesus' name in Greek, IHSOUS-- Iota Eta Sigma, which in our (Latin) lettering looks like IHS.

It's also reportedly carved in the wall in some of the catacombs under the city of Rome, where it's not certain if these were Latin-speaking or Greek-speaking Christians. If Latin, it is thought to mean Iesus Humanum Salvator (Jesus Savior of Mankind) or In Hoc Signum ("in this sign," i.e. the Cross.)

The Church has no problem with multi-meaning symbols. In fact, uses them all the time.

I wish the Vatican would, indeed, demand that Georgetown and Notre Dame shape up or ship out.

He asked to speak at the Georgetown event. Not the other way around. If he didn’t know it was America’s FIRST Catholic College he’s uninformed. When you ask to visit someone’s house you don’t demand a change in the decor to fit your mood. That Georgetown conceded to this request is to show its Jebbies are more concerned with cocktail party invites than their own stated mission of their school and their order.

This has been Barack Obama's modus operandi for litrally all his adult life, ever since he was a community orgnizer in Chicago: he uses Christian institutions for their prestige, their respectability, their material resources, but guts them of their inner identity and meaning.

He strip-mines churches.

Same as pro-abort goddess-devotee "theologian" Rosemary Radford Ruthless, who, when asked why --- though she rejected all its teachings on faith and morals ---she remained in the Catholic church, answered, "That's where the xerox machines are."
