Obama Tax Day Speech...Game, Set, Match Against Tea Parties
FR | 4-15-09 | Bob J

Posted on 04/15/2009 9:22:50 AM PDT by Bob J

I haven't even attended my local TP yet, but Obama has already pre-empted them with a speech that effectively moves the discussion away from the TP issues to his own, tax breaks (some) to the majority of taxpayers (50% don't pay any taxes at all), taking away tax breaks for the rich (resonates with most voters) and streamlining the tax code (won't happen but sounds good).

Sorry TP organizers, but you only have yourself to blame for framing these rallies based on taxes in general instead of focusing them on 1. the criminal activity that spawned the economic crisis, 2. out of control government borrowing, 3. the deficit and 4. who/how it is going to be paid.

Tea Party participants know what they are about, but those who don't won't have a clue and now Obama's comments will be thrown in the face of every point you try to make. If the purpose of the TP's was team building then that may still get accomplished, but if it was bringing your message to the masses then that might now get a little harder.

I hope I'm wrong, but the Obama Admin was ready for this and might have effectively muted the message and effectiveness of this first volley from the TP'ers.

A pilot has to know the condition of his ship.

With all due respect, did you know that S&P and Moody’s (you know the ratings agencies that gave the toxic Mortgage Backed Securities triple A ratings) are going to earn hundreds of millions of dollars (taxpayers’ dollars) in transaction fees to administer Geithner’s TALF program? And you think that I, a small business owner, should be perfectly happy to have my fees and taxes increased to ‘bailout’ these clowns?
Well, I’m certain you will be happy to make up for the loss of revenue the government will experience when I go on vacation for the next two years. I think FDR called it a ‘Capital Strike’. See ya. Wouldn’t want to be ya!

<<<”The message should have been focused on the financial criminality, how no one is being investigated or prosecuted and who is going to pay for it (future generations). These messages would resonate with 90% of the people.”>>>

I was very active in the 1964 Goldwater campaign and Goldwater was anti big government and a theme he used was “children and grandchildren paying for it”.

That was 44 years ago.

As it was then, the U.S. were/are a nation of sheep and are only concerned if they have a job or not. or does the “criminality” effect me?

Just like when a person buys a car or a home. Not the overall cost but what are the payments each month.

I’m sorry that you feel that the need to get on TV to show your displeasure with the protesters, not everyone loves you but from the reaction we got at our small little protest most Americans were with us judging from the honks and thumbs up.

We just watched the White House Press dude , Bill or Bob or whatever his name is, do his daily briefing; and very surprisingly, many of the MSM questions were about the tea party protests, hidden tax increases (tobacco) on working class Americans, anger at bailouts, etc.

Looks like the tea party people have gotten the bigger message out to the MSM, contrary to your fears.

If you have a question ask it. Don’t post a statement and expect a response and don’t speak for Jim, he can handle himself.

He is just trying to help us focus our message.

I guess I don't understand then. Where is the diluted message? Americans have never been as united now as they have been since the aftermath of 9/11. Over 500 rallies all across the U.S. opposing socialistic government is not staying on message?

He has been part of movement conservatism for decades

I don't care if he was one of the Founders. He's wrong.

Too often conservatives just want to lash out and they NEVER want to hear any agonizing appraisal or sober analysis of the effectiveness of their actions.

No, I'm not lashing out - why don't you be a man and respond to me directly. You're preaching the same lukewarm urine arguments that have put the GOP in the minority. The days of debating politely are over my FRiend.

Tax deadline brings out thousands of protesters

By JOE BIESK

Thousands of protesters, some dressed like Revolutionary War soldiers and most waving signs with anti-tax slogans, gathered around the nation Wednesday for a series of rallies modeled after the original Boston Tea Party. They chose the income tax filing deadline to express their displeasure with government spending since President Barack Obama took office.

The protests were held everywhere from Kentucky, ~ snip ~ to South Carolina, where the governor has repeatedly criticized the $787 billion economic stimulus package Congress passed earlier this year.

More... - California, New York, In Atlanta, thousands of people... In Lansing, Mich; Salt Lake City, UT; Madison , Wis.; Montgomery, Ala., etc.

In Boston, a few hundred protesters gathered on the Boston Common -- a short distance from the original Tea Party -- some dressed in Revolutionary garb and carrying signs that said "Barney Frank, Bernie Madoff: And the Difference Is?" and "D.C.: District of Communism." - More... -

It is about taxes- what do you think future taxes will be like to pay for all this spending? It is about many things but taxes are part of it.

You are free to start your own rallies and name them whatever you wish if you don’t agree with the tea parties. At least for now it is still a free country.

“Over 500 rallies all across the U.S. opposing socialistic government is not staying on message?”

I have to post and run, but I see that main point being diluted by the MSM. I was disappointed watching Beck last night and how most of his show was about taxes. That is part of it, but the Tea Parties are SO MUCH more.

And, I do agree with a few posts up - a GREAT thing is that for whatever the diluted reason for being there that the media reports on - hundreds of thousands of folks have gotten out there today!
