LOL! As if Affleck opinion really matters? It is articles exactly like this is the reason for paper failures. What a pathetic article.

Even before "State of Play," his new movie celebrating the watchdog role of newspapers,

Goebbels believed there was a "watchdog" role for newspapers.

So did Hearst (give me the pictures, I'll give you the "war").

Screw Big Media and their lies.

The purpose of journalism is to accurately report the FACTS of the day's events.

Activism in that reporting turns the report into propaganda.

"I think the public has felt let down by The New York Times and others for not asking the tough questions

Actually the public has felt let down by the Old Grey 'ore because SHE LIED. Journalists at the NY Times have MADE IT UP at times. FAKE news. Dishonest journalism.

... his new movie celebrating the watchdog role of newspapers...

A real "must see" propaganda film about the DNC's propaganda arm.

Why does his opinion matter? He’s just an actor for heaven’s sake.

Affleck said. "I think the public has felt let down by The New York Times and others for not asking the tough questions, whether about the Iraq war or the subprime issue."

They covered the Iraq War: Bush=Hitler, Bush-lied, Bush=War Criminal.

The subprime issue? Your donkeys caused that assflack!

I actually think Affleck means well. I think he's grown up priviledged and really doesn't understand the real world nearly as well as he thinks he does.

If Ben AFLAC (quack) is so concerned about the Boston Glob why doesn’t he buy it? He’s got the money.

I think the public has felt let down by The New York Times and others for not asking the tough questions, whether about the Iraq war or the subprime issue.

WRONG

They feel let down due to the media's liberal bias and the piss poor job they do in reporting and opining on the news. An honest conservative doesn't mind criticism on ethics, wasteful spending or deviation from the Constitution when Repubs fall down on the job. The blatant cheer leading that went on for Obama was the last straw though and it's no wonder that people are looking elsewhere for information and opinion.

“Part of the erosion of newspapers is about new media, but part of it is newspapers’ own fault,” Affleck said.

Actually I was impressed that he even blamed the newpapers themselves even partially...As he gets closer to 40 (he’s about 37 going on 38) and became a father, he is at least smartening a bit...

Affleck visited Capitol Hill to research his role, meeting with Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Representative Anthony D. Weiner of New York’s 9th congressional district,[36] and members of the Massachusetts congressional delegation.[37] http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/State_of_Play_(film)
