Somali pirates have hijacked a US-owned tugboat in the Gulf of Aden with 16 crew on board, reports say.
Maritime industry sources say the tug, which sails under an Italian flag, was towing two barges at the time of the attack, at 1100 local time (0800 GMT).
The crew are said to be unharmed. The US and Italian governments have not confirmed the hijacking.
Meanwhile pirates holding a US captain hostage have warned that using force to rescue him could result in "disaster".
The pirates said they hoped to transfer Capt Richard Phillips from a lifeboat to a bigger vessel, as US and other naval ships made their way to the area.
He is being held by four pirates hundreds of kilometres off Somalia.
In other developments:
- Sailors on a Panama-flagged bulk carrier repulsed a pirate attack with water hoses. Nato officials on a nearby Portuguese warship said an unexploded rocket-propelled grenade landed in the commanding officer's cabin
- On Friday, one Frenchman and two pirates were killed in a rescue operation by French troops on another vessel captured off Somalia. Four others, including a child, were freed from the yacht

The captain in the lifeboat with the three Islamic terrorist pirates is a result of the first "pirating" of a ship flying an American flag in quite some time.
Most cruise ships (and maybe most cargo ships use this reason too) register under a different country's flag even when owned by an American company because of the outrageous tax and labor laws.
That way they can hire mostly foreign workers at a very low wage ($25,000 a year for a room manager) so they can make a decent profit.
What will Obama do when these or other Islamic terrorist "pirates" take over a cruise ship with thousands of people on it, mostly American?
As one who went on a cruise one month after the Twin Towers attack, this was on our minds.
But we had a President that fought for American lives back then, even if they were not from his race.
If this were whites taking hostage blacks, you can bet the Congressional Black Caucus would be in the face of Obama to solve the situation.
Not like they did when soldiers were needing help in the Blackhawk down situation when the caucus intimidated Clinton not to help because it was Somalis (read black like them) that we were fighting.

Instead of negotiating with these jackals we should be looking for a little payback for the “Blackhawk Down” incident under the last Democrat president. These Islamic terrorists (not swashbuckling pirates) need to be taught a lesson they will never forget, that is if any of them happen to survive to fight on. If that happens what we should do is use Q-ships like they did in World War One and when any vessel approaches, drop the camouflage and blast them out of the water before they have a chance to attack. TOTUS appears, however, more likely to act if the enemies happen to be executives of automobile companies, financial institutions or Republicans than terrorists or pirates for that matter.

I talked to my sister back in England she told me that most people there now think obama is out of his depth, he is showing weakness and they believe he is all talk with no brains.

The hostage managed to escape once. Before the bad guys could retrieve him, the hatch should have been illuminated and taking massive suppressive fire from .50MG and sniper rifles, while the SEALs pulled the captain out of the water. It was botched, probably as a result of Obama’s Carteresque rules of engagement.
Like shotgun squads when there’s a rash of convenience store robberies. Put ‘em in the back, when the bad guys come in, they pop out BLAM. That’s it. They may have to insert and extract the teams via helo, but given the value of these cargos, and the ransoms that are being paid, it seems like a cheap thing, and it would only have to go on for so long.

I agree that the perspective and context of these events is mind numbingly tragic for our nation.
Naturally, the full weight of the events of the past week will be lost on liberals and the MSM Propaganda Ministry, or be distorted, spun, and ignored by them to protect their Dear Leader.
But it isn’t being lost on American patriots, nor on our enemies, who are predictably becoming emboldened by Obama’s inaction and his World Apology Tour.
Meanwhile, his Secretary of State breaks out into psychotic cackling at the mere mention of Americans being held hostage.
I don’t think I can remember a more disastrous week in foreign relations by any administration.
